The two standout movies coming out this week are both love stories. The first is director Lasse Hallstrom’s adaptation of Nicholas Sparks‘ newest bestseller, Dear John. The man who wrote The Notebook, brings us the story a young soldier named John Tyree (Channing Tatum) and his one true love Savannah (Amanda Seyfried). The pair have good on screen chemistry and are not bad to look at. I definitely think this movie will be number 1 this week.
The other movie worth watching is Pierre Morel’s film From Paris With Love. This isn’t a love story in the traditional sense, although it is about the love one man has for action. It stars John Travolta as a bad ass Agent and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

From Paris With Love surprised me in many ways. Initially, the thought of John Travolta doing a slightly different version of his character from The Taking of Pelham 123, just didn’t appeal to me. I walked in expecting to laugh and cringe at how horrible it was, but soon discovered that it wasn’t as bad as I thought. It’s not an epic action film that leaves a mark on your life like the first Die Hard, but it has its moments. So, laughter – yes, cringing – minimal.

Yesterday we brought you news that Pierre Morel had been tapped to take on the big screen remake of the sci-fi property Dune, and now a new trailer has been released for his latest film. From Paris With Love stars a very bald John Travolta and a confused Jonathan Rhys Meyers, in an action ode to the eighties. On the surface the movie doesn’t look any different from what we’re used to seeing, but this trailer tries to set it apart.

Amongst all the films that get thrown at us every year it’s hard to remember who’s coming out with what and when. Case and point, did it slip anyone elses mind that John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers‘ film, From Paris With Love was still a pending release? Apparently it’s still going strong and over at CraveOnline, they’ve got two new posters from the film that features both actors doing their best bad ass imitations.

The slow roll of summer movies onto DVD continues this week as a trio of popcorn hits make their way onto store shelves with the release of GI Joe, The Taking of Pelham 123, and I Love You, Beth Cooper. There’s also a new doc, a Will Ferrell special, a new release of a Hitchcock classic, and the three worst DVDs of the week. What more could you ask for?

Here’s a profanity laced look at the upcoming action film, From Paris With Love. We brought you a teaser trailer a while back, and now here’s the red band version to feed your appetite for senseless violence. The film centers on a low ranking intelligence officer (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) working in France at the U.S. Ambassador’s office. He bites off more than he can chew when he’s paired up with a high ranking, wise-cracking, over the top senior agent, who is played by a very bald John Travolta.
Watch the bullets, violence, and mayhem ensue…

Are you ready for some evil John Travolta action? Well, you’re in luck because a new trailer has just been released for Tony Scott’s The Taking of Pelham 123. The film stars Travolta as a hijacker of the aforementioned New York City subway train. Denzel Washington co-stars as a dispatcher who has to miraculously turn into a professional negotiator in order to save dozens of innocent lives. The film hits theaters on June 12 of this year and also stars James Gandolfini and John Turturro. This trailer features more dialogue than the first, and has a certain Jack Bauer 24 quality to it. Is this another pointless hostage film? Well, I like hostage films if they’re well made, they’re worth your time. So, what does this one have going for it? It has the amazing cast of Denzel Washington, John Travolta, and my favorite James Gandolfini, lead by Tony Scott, a man that knows his way around an action film. It was written by Brian Helgeland, the man who brought us Mystic River, L.A. Confidential, and many more. So, I think this definitely has a lot of potential for a high-class action film.
The story is about armed men (lead by Travolta) who hijack a subway train in NY and demand of a hefty ransom from a simply civil servant (Denzel Washington). As the authorities (lead by James Gandolfini) try to negotiate the hijackers try to create a plan to get away. Of course, Travolta and Washington bound at develop a unique relationship which I’m sure helps them both through rough times.

I’m not sure if it’s because this is the international trailer or what, but trailer feels straight out of the 90’s. To me it feels like watching Die Hard with a bald John Travolta instead of Bruce Willis. Somehow I doubt these are the best moments from the film, but if they are, run don’t walk from this movie, because it’s going to get pummeled…
