It’s summer in September this week as some of the bigger summer movies are making their home theater debut with the release of Get Him to the Greek and Iron Man 2. You can also enjoy a couple of smaller art house films and everybody’s favorite cuddly documentary when you pick up the DVD of Babies.
There’s also a smattering of TV on DVD (not the small screen onslaught we’ve experience the last few weeks) and one of the worst DVDs we’ve ever seen (wait until you see the title).

Don’t you hate it when trailers advertise footage that is nowhere in the actual film? It happens a lot, and last summer’s Iron Man 2 was no exception. Apparently, there was some footage taken from an alternate opening of the movie used in the trailer that never saw the light of day — until now. The scene has appeared online and features what would have been a hilarious re-introduction to Tony Stark and Pepper Potts had they gone with it. Check it out…

We thought we dodged a major bullet when Paramount and Marvel decided against releasing Iron Man 2 in 3D but we celebrated too soon. It turns out that the film was extremely close to being converted into the format but at the last minute the powers that be pulled the plug. According to a recent article in the LA Times, Marvel execs still have their eye on the 3D trend and plan on incorporating it into their future titles sooner than later.

Looks like Iron Man 2 may not have been able to shatter all the box office records in the world, but it did have one hell of a strong opening and shot past the debut of the first Iron Man, which kicked off with $98.6 million on the same weekend in 2008 – and it didn’t even need 3D to do so, booya! So far, it’s already the 4th highest grossing film of 2010 (and probably the best sans Inception action film of the summer), and if this film is anything like the last, it’s a grow-er not a show-er. The good word of mouth and millions of advertising should keep it in theaters and I would be willing to wager that by end of it’s run, it’s broken some top grossing record.

After two years of waiting the big day is finally here! Iron Man 2 was released in theaters everywhere this morning at 12:01 am. Over the past few weeks the film’s reviews have been rolling in and for the most part they’ve been mixed. From a critical standpoint I can understand the issues journalists have with the movie but as an Iron Man fan, I wasn’t disappointed. What do you think? Is Iron Man 2 better than Iron Man 1? Vote in our poll and let us know…

There is no doubt that this weeks big winner at the box office is going to be Jon Favreau’s action adventure film, Iron Man 2 starring Robert Downey Jr. The film is the follow up to the successful first installment where a billionaire inventor doubles as a armored superhero. If you would rather take the indie/Sundance film festival route this week, be sure to check out Mother and Child directed by Rodrigo García, starring, Annette Benning, Naomi Watts and Kerry Washington, all of whom are beautiful and talented actresses in their own right. Then there are two amazing documentaries Casino Jack and Babies.

Not long ago we attended the press conference for Iron Man 2, which was basically Robert Downey Jr.‘s chance to show off a unique hybrid between himself and Tony Stark. Not only did he dominate the stage, the questions, and everyone elses answers, but at one point he literally “held” the press conference together – but more on that below. In attendance along with Downey was the director Jon Favreau, writer Justin Theroux, producer Kevin Peige and cast members Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, and Don Cheadle (sadly no Sam Rockwell who absolutely rocked the film).

Here is a generic interview sent to us from Paramount which is far more than we got out of Scarlett Johansson at the press conference for Iron Man 2. Although who could blame her? Robert Downey Jr. was in full form and dominating the stage (and everyone else’s answers). The interview below is pretty standard but it does give you a bit of insight into her character and all the hard work she put into spinning her web/legs around peoples heads.

Last week, we told you about Iron Man 2′s assault on the foreign box office with openings in Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, Korea, Russia, Germany, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Hong Kong. Whew! After all the numbers were tallied over the weekend, the film broke a few records and has already earned a healthy $100.2 million. That’s up 26 percent from the original’s international debut.
