These are the numbers that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 would have to do in its weekend and on its first day to compete with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which holds the weekend and single day crowns. But those numbers tell a story of how front loaded sequels are these days. Still, it could be close, which would put a kick in the rear of the recent modest box office. Over the weekend, Immortals fought its way to the top of the box office. The action film grossed $32 million, which came as a shock to us. We expected Puss In Boots to hold on to the No. 1 spot a little longer. Adam Sandler‘s twin-drag comedy Jack and Jill followed Immortals in second place, earning $26 million. Puss In Boots came in third with 25.5 million, bringing its total to $108.9 million, while Brett Ratner‘s Tower Heist came in fourth, earning $13.2 million. Rounding out the top five was Clint Eastwood‘s biopic J. Edgar, which earned $11.4 million.

Over the weekend Rogue Pictures released a few production stills from their upcoming Greek epic, Immortals. The film is directed by Indian helmer Tarsem Singh and features “The Tudors” Henry Cavill, Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, and Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto. There a lot of upcoming films that will tackle the subject of Greek mythology but none as anticipated as Tarsem Singh’s War of the Gods. It’s currently in production and Relativity Media sent out a press release letting everyone know that they’ve made a few major changes. War of Gods will now be called Immortals and two actors have joined the growing cast including Oscar nominee John Hurt and Transformers star Isabel Lucas.
