  • Guess who’s on the latest cover of Empire Magazine?! It’s Gollum (above), from Lord of the Rings and the upcoming The Hobbit. [Empire Online]
  • Will Megatron make an appearance in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Michael Bay says, “No”, but we don’t believe him. [/Film]
  • Dreamworks got bank! Steven Spielberg’s newly independent studio has investors shelling out millions of dollars to keep it a float.  [THR]

lord of the rings 1 3 Lord of the Rings Alumni Returning for The Hobbit?

One of the characters from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy may make an appearance in the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film, The Hobbit. MTV recently caught up with LOTR alumni, Dominic Monaghan and he spoke about a possible return for his character Merry in the del Toro prequel. Not only did Monaghan have casting news to spill about himself, but a familiar wizard and bipolar creature may also make an appearance in the next film.

Guillermo del Toro recently spoke with ComingSoon about his upcoming Hobbit films.

Toro’s take on casting the film: “Literally, like every week, what you discover writing the two movies, writing the two stories, it changes. So, every week there’s a discovery, and anything we say this week would be contradicted next week. Certainly that would be true in casting. Why create hopes or why create expectations if down the line you’re going to go, ‘You know what? That was not a good idea.’”

Then we get to the good stuff, the monsters. Toro has quickly become one of the masters of demons, monsters and fantasy with his Hellboy films and Pan’s Labrynth. Now with Tolken’s creativity and the budget I’m sure he always dreamed of, we get to see what Toro can really do.
