Weekend Box Office: More Blood, More Money

boxoffice09 8 31 Weekend Box Office: More Blood, More Money

Once again, the teenage horror market takes over the box office with two gory sequels, The Final Destination and Halloween II coming in at numbers 1 and 3, only to be separated by a more sophisticated but the equally bloody film Inglourious Basterds. Sadly, our readers predicted that the wrong film would take the lead this weekend, but I like to see that you all went for good old fashioned quality blood over the new wave 3-D guts. Apparently upping the budget for the last film in The Final Destination series from $22-25 million to $42 million paid off.

Check out all the numbers below…

h2 Halloween 2: Movie Review

He’s baaaaack. After an eighty-million dollar box office success in 2007 with Halloween, Rob Zombie will re-introduce everyone’s favorite neighborhood whack job: Michael Meyers. Halloween 2, starring Scout Taylor-Compton, picks up where the last film ends, but this time there’s even more blood, screaming, and senseless killing. Shocker.

Check out the plot, the good, and the bad…

robzombie09 8 27 Rob Zombie Interview for H2

Tonight at midnight, Halloween 2 will terrorize audiences nationwide. Woot Woot.  Last week, I attended the press conference for the film and got the rundown from the film’s director, Rob Zombie, who for such a dark and juvenile director/musician is incredibly soft-spoken and introverted.

Check out some of the highlights from the press conference below…

H2 Teaser Trailer

h2 movie poster H2 Teaser Trailer

We previously brought you some of the teaser footage from Rob Zombie’s H2 trailer earlier this week. Now, it has officially been released and you can view it in it’s entirety. It pretty much features Michael Myers literally slashing through a hospital to get to his sister, Laurie. As I said before I know this is supposed to be different from the original Halloween 2, but I still notice some heavy handed similarities.  I do enjoy some of Zombies films, but Halloween just wasn’t one of them. Some early complaints I’ve read about this trailer suggests that there are a few eerie similarities to Friday the 13th. You be the judge by checking out the video after the jump.

h2operation First H2 Video Teaser Features a Bloody Hospital Visit

If your a follower of musician turned filmmaker Rob Zombie you must be dying to see some live action footage from his upcoming sequel to 2007′s Halloween. The director gave a video exclusive to TV magazine Entertainment Tonight that shows the mutilated maniac running a muck in a hospital. I was under the impression that H2 wasn’t going to be a remake of Halloween 2 from 1981, yet I see some major similarities in this clip. The video poster edited together the original ET footage and a slow motion version so you can get a glimpse of all the little stuff that you may have missed the first time around.

Check out the video after the jump.

waltz with bashir 01 Round Up: Wrestler vs Robocop, New Thor Character, Michael Myers Makeover

Here some of the top stories you might have missed this weekend…

  • Waltz With Bashir was named Best Picture of 2008 by the National Society of Film Critics, beating out Happy-Go-Lucky, and Wall-E. Waltz is an animated feature based on writer Ari Folman’s experience as a soldier during the 1982 invasion of Lebanon.  [Variety]
  • Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel H2, will bring big changes to the traditional Michael Myers costume. The horror icon will now dawn a new mask! Yeah, I’m angry about it too, but Hollywood is at the point where their remaking entire franchises, therefore I’m not surprised. [ShocktillyouDrop]
  • Check out Harold Ramis’ The Year One. It’s a Biblical comedy that stars Jack Black and Michael Cera as two lazy cavemen, who interact with some of the most famous people in Biblical history. The film co-stars Paul Rudd, David Cross, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.  [/Film]

Before Saruman or Dooku: Christopher Lee Had Fangs

chrislee08 10 27 Before Saruman or Dooku: Christopher Lee Had Fangs

Arguably the hardest working villain alive (Dick Cheney notwithstanding), Christopher Lee has a film career going back to the late 40′s. That’s several years before Tolkien published his Rings trilogy and when George Lucas was still in diapers. Now, a full discussion of Mr. Lee’s dramatic roles could fill a film school term paper or at least take several pints of Guinness… yum…. Guinness… but just in time for Halloween comes a recommendation of his 1960s/70s “Dracula” period. One could say he cut his teeth on the role back then in preparation for a long career playing mostly bad guys.

Seven times he rose from the dead to play the most famous vampire (Dick Cheney notwithstanding) for the venerable Hammer Film Productions studio. Seven times!
