Now that we know that Adam Sandler is giving one of his most reviled films—Grown Ups—the sequel treatment with the cleverly titled Grown Ups 2, the big question on the tip of everyone’s tongues is one and the same. No, no “how can the world be so cruel and unfair as to unleash this horror upon us?” Rather, it is “which Twilight star known for wooden and stilted acting could be added to the hilarity and hijinks of Grown Ups 2?” And your answer, America, is Taylor Lautner.

Grown Ups, the Adam Sandler-starring vehicle which reunited him with friends Kevin James, Rob Schnieder, Chris Rock and David Spade made a lot of money. $162 Million, point of fact, making it the second highest grossing Sandler film, just about two million shy of Big Daddy. Which is exactly why Sony has greenlit a sequel, and it’s now expected to hit theaters July 12, 2013. Aren’t we lucky.

The June 25th weekend doesn’t have much to offer the dedicated moviegoer. Only three films are opening, with one in limited and the other two in wide release. On Wednesday, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz got a head start on the competition with their action-comedy, Knight and Day. The film centers on a woman who’s life is put in danger after a chance meeting with a defected spy.
On the other hand, Adam Sandler and 90 percent of the cast from “Saturday Night Live” will appear in the comedy Grown Ups. A film about five 40-somethings who reunite over the 4th of July weekend after the death of their old basketball coach.

Adam Sandler took the major players from the 1992 cast of “Saturday Night Live,” put them in a movie, and named it Grown Ups. The actor co-wrote the screenplay and stars in the film, which includes a who’s who of comedy veterans. On the surface, it looks like an excuse for a group of 40-somethings to act like 12 year olds but surprisingly, beyond the crude jokes and gags, there’s a legitimate story about friendship and family…

For the majority of Adam Sandler’s career, Dennis Dugan has been his right-hand man when it comes to making movies. Dugan’s directed the star in Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and the this week’s Grown Ups. Not only does he have a good rapport with Sandler, but he’s established relationships with plenty of the film’s other co-stars including David Spade, Kevin James, and Rob Schneider.
Because of his professional and personal connection with the actors, he was able to wrangle them up into one comedy ensemble. Grown Ups centers on a group of 40-somethings who reunite after the death of their middle school basketball coach. While spending the holiday weekend together they reminisce about old times, reconnect with each other, and also their families. When I spoke to Dugan in a one on one interview he revealed how the film came about and how the shoot was both fun and terrifying all at the same time…
