It would be interesting if Woody Allen‘s To Rome With Love was his capper to a foreign city trilogy. He recently made Vicky Christina Barcelona, and last year’s Midnight in Paris, so why not? Rome stars Allen, Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page, along with Oscar winner Roberto Benigni. The film opens June 22, and here’s the film’s trailer.

Arthur: Movie Review

Arthur Close Up 2 22 11 kc Arthur: Movie Review

Mediocrity here we come! Arthur is nothing if it isn’t that. It’s not bad enough to really be horrible or offensive, there are enough jokes to make you chuckle all the way through (provided you haven’t already seen them in the trailer), and the cast is extremely easy to watch – BUT the fact is, this is a mainstream, easy for everyone to consume, take no risks comedy. But hey, it’s not all bad…

To know Whit Stillman is to love 90′s cinema. In 1990, his Metropolitan announced a dazzling (and Oscar-nominated) wit, and 1994′s Barcelona showed a man of certain interests and great talent. But after 1998′s Last Days of Disco, Stillman disappeared from cinema – only to pop his head up when his work was reisssued by the Criterion Collection. Word would surface now and again about what he was working on, but there was no movement until recently. He finally made a new film – Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress - and Sony Pictures Classics will now be releasing it worldwide. The film stars Greta Gerwig and Adam Brody.

Arthur Close Up 2 22 11 kc New Trailer for Arthur with Russell Brand and Greta Gerwig

A new trailer for the Arthur remake with Russell Brand has hit the net. The previous one was pretty funny but it was missing one important element — Greta Gerwig. She’s the lady who plays the real love of Arthur’s life, yet she didn’t get any screentime in the first trailer. She’s not exactly plastered all over this version either, but she gets something. Take a look…

NoStrings1 No Strings Attached: Movie Review

It’s been a mighty successful month for Ms. Natalie Portman with her engagement, pregnancy and Golden Globe. There’s nothing like destroying a streak of victory with a shitty rom-com! The Oscar-nominee teams up with the painfully one dimensional Ashton Kutcher in Ivan Reitman’s, No Strings Attached. The film pollutes theaters nationwide Friday, January 21st.

art house Feel Good Film Fest: Art House Movie Review

One goes to the Feel Good Film Festival more for emotional than intellectual stimulation, but there are interesting questions bubbling under the premise of Art House, concerning the nature of art, what makes an artist and how one decides the aesthetic worth of their work. But the film is content to coast through a stock story of slacker students struggling to prove their worth in the face of the comic-evil dean who’s trying to convert their dorm house into a golf-team club house; they must knuckle down and actually make some art in order to save the decades-long tradition of a free space for art students to live and work. It’s a fine concept, such an art-haven, but one can’t help feeling that at least half the students really don’t deserve the cushy set-up.

fee good festival8 10 10jpg Feel Good Film Festival This Weekend

The third annual Feel Good Film Festival takes over the Egyptian this weekend, with a programme that boasts over 60 features, shorts and documentaries, all geared towards, well, making you feel good.

With an admirably uncynical and optimistic outlook, the festival was founded to encourage the development, production and distribution of films that highlight positive themes, happy endings and laughter. The programme doesn’t shy away from adult subjects, although for the most part it remains suitable for all the family. Easy enough to scoff at, less easy to pull off.
