Well it looks like the women have decided this weekends box office top film. Never have I seen more hoards of men-less woman (aside from Sex and the City) filling in the theaters to see He’s Just Not That Into You. There are plenty of things for a guy to enjoy in this movie (Scarlett Johnspn with almost nothing on anyone?) but I don’t think they’re willing to risk it. They need to get one to go and the rest will follow. Coraline made it to number three this week, which is pretty damn good for a stop-frame animation. Hell it beat out all the other movies opening this weekend including The Pink Panther 2 and Push.

I can’t believe it! How the hell did this happen again? Are people really this stupid? Paul Blart: Mall Cop managed to scarp above Gran Torino and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans!!! I can understand people not knowing and going the first week, but come on people! Two weeks in a row? Read some reviews, don’t be fooled! And how the hell did Hotel for Dogs move up a spot? This is madness!

It used to be that there was only one man who could get away with calling a person of Asian decent both a “pussy” and a “gook,” and still make you laugh about it and respect him; that being Don Rickles. With his new movie Gran Torino, in which he both stars and directs, we can now add Clint Eastwood to the list.
Eastwood plays Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran who in his words “just wants to be left alone.” But when his Hmong teenage neighbor tries to steal his prized muscle car on a gang initiation dare, Walt takes action. Action that sets in motion a chain of events which will bring him both new friends, and unavoidable circumstances with consequences even his tough guy persona may not be able to handle.

You’ve got Doubt, The Reader, and Gran Torino. Talk about pulling out the big guns. You’ve got some of the top actors of all time, all giving amazing performances in well known, books, plays, etc. Then there is, Wendy and Lucy, it looks a tad slow, but everyone who has seen it says it’s amazing. I know you’ll all be at an IMAX seeing The Day the Earth Stood Still, but make it a double. Something to feed the eyes and your brain.
Here are this weeks movie releases:

They say things come in threes. First it was Joaquin Phoenix. Then Nicole Kidman. Now, sadly, it’s a Hollywood icon. Yesterday during promotional efforts for his new film Gran Torino, Clint let the news out.
“You always want to quit while you are ahead,” he said to the Telegraph. “You don’t want to be like a fighter who stays too long in the ring until you’re not performing at your best.” Read the full article here.

***Update: Gran Torino Review***
If you find yourself in the mood for a film that is the farthest thing from a love drama, then keep December 17th open for Gran Torino, starring Clint Eastwood. In this film, Eastwood plays a war veteran who sets out to set his neighbor- a young teenager who tries to steal his beloved car, a Gran Torino -straight.
Of course, there is always an alternative.
If you find yourself in the mood for a new drama about a deteriorating relationship, keep November 7th open for Eden. Eden is the story of a perfect relationship that begins deteriorating after what is often seen as the first big hurdle, a tenth anniversary. This looks like a promising movie from Ireland about what happens when a relationship and a wife become too “old” for a man.
Watch the trailers for both films after the jump.
