This weekend the feature adaptation of the stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf will open in theaters nationwide. The film is directed by Tyler Perry, who also adapted and wrote the screenplay based on this heartbreaking material. The cast of For Colored Girls is a who’s who of stage, film, and television legends including Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, and Thandie Newton.
We had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Newton about her role in the film and the dark subject matter that For Colored Girls addresses. Her character’s name is Tangie, an oversexed, overly aggressive woman who isolates herself from the world. She’s angry, hurt, and acts out against everyone because its the only way she knows how to survive. We had an interesting conversation that addressed the root of Tangie’s behavior and it was an eye opening experience to say the least.

The hot, shirtless guy who’s become a marketing sensation for Old Spice is taking his career to the next level. Isaiah Mustafa previously landed a part in the upcoming Tyler Perry drama, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf as a supporting character but instead of keeping him locked in that role, Perry made a switch. He pulled him out of Colored Girls and put him in his other flick Madea’s Big Happy Family — as the lead!

After her subdued performance in Precious, we thought Mariah Carey was ready and willing to do whatever she had to for us to forget her “masterpiece” Glitter. Her next positive step would have been Tyler Perry’s upcoming feature film For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. It’s the first movie he’ll direct that’s based on someone else’s material and the cast he’s acquired is filled with legends from both the film and music world, but unfortunately Carey will no longer be a part of it.
