So far, Planet 51 looks like a hit. The more they show us, the better it gets. The premise of us being the aliens for once opens up the door for many interesting comparisons and possibly funny moments.
Directed by newcomers Jorge Blanco and co-directors Javier Abad and Marcos Martinez comes a story about a US astronaut who arrives up Planet 51, only to find he has disrupted their normal, 50’s lifestyle. Just like us, the inhabitants of Planet 51 live in fear of alien invasion, so an astronaut arrives from Earth the imagine the worst. The cast includes voice work from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Seann William Scott, Jessical Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman, and John Cleese.

So many castings, so little time. A lot of news regarding some of your favorite actors and actresses has broken overnight. Here’s a rundown of who’s hooking up with who and for what project.
- Dwayne Johnson will be going back to his action roots with his latest film. The actor is in final negotiations to star in Faster, where he’ll play an ex-con trying to avenge his brothers death. The film will reteam the actor with Gridiron Gang director Phil Joanau. [Variety]
- After the greatness that was 2001’s The Score, Edward Norton and Robert De Niro are reuniting for another project. They will star in the indie thriller, Stone. De Niro will play “a correctional officer who is seduced by the wife of a convicted arsonist (Norton) up for parole.”[Variety]
- James McAvoy, Elizabeth Banks, Laura Linney, and Anna Friel will star in a comedy entitled, The Details. The film will be directed by Jacob Estes, who also wrote the screenplay featuring a couple who disagrees about how to handle a raccoon infestation in their backyard. [RopeofSilicon]

This weekend we’ll have an epic battle of heroes versus aliens when last week’s box office champ,Watchmen takes on Dwayne Johnson and Race to Witch Mountain. The film is a “reimagining” of the 1975 Disney film Escape to Witch Mountain, which starred Eddie Albert. Zack Snyder’s graphic novel adaptation debuted last Friday with 55 million dollars, which some critics saw as a so-so opening considering Warner Brother’s excessive marketing plan. The film will have to stave off Witch Mountain along with two other wide releases to hold on to it’s number one spot. In the words of Watchmen’s Rorschach, “That’s a tall order.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been linked to this summer’s Terminator Salvation, and next year’s Sylvester Stallone flick The Expendables. The California Governor has been quiet for the most part regarding his involvement with both films, but he’s finally decided to break his silence. According to FirstShowing, Schwarzenegger spoke about his reluctance to appear in the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise, but his eagerness to work with Sly in the ’80’s action homage The Expendables.

Well, you’ve got a lot going on in this poster. Aliens, psychedelic roads, witches, and The Rock. Although the trailer looks pretty cool, the films as a whole is directed at the pre-teen/early teen market, which makes it hard for me to get too excited. It looks like they’ve made a really expensive episode of “Heroes,” which means it will probably make bank, but won’t be breaking any new ground.
