As we reported last week, one of the few semi-jewels left in ABC’s crown is Desperate Housewives, and that the once-bright show is now being dimmed for a May 2012 series finale. And while fans of the show can expect to say goodbye to such familiar faces as Teri Hatcher and Eva Longoria, fans shouldn’t expect an opportunity to say farewell to Nicollette Sheridan.

It launched Eva Longoria – who nearly became a movie star – and gave Teri Hatcher the “big return” role, while Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman gave it dignity, and in return got paychecks. And though there was cast drama, the show burned bright, and has now faded, with a scheduled May 2012 end date.

“Desperate Housewives” has never been on my radar, but the show is trying to pull in the sci-fi fans with the latest edition to their cast. According to EW, “Torchwood” alum John Barrowman has signed on to do a multiple episode arc on the series. How the hell did they manage to pull that off? Best known for her role as Gabrielle on the ABC hit Desperate Housewives, Eva Longoria Parker is crossing over to feature films. The actress will step into the shoes of executive producer with her upcoming project, Harvest. According to Variety, this won’t be a scripted feature but a documentary that will focus on the serious subject of migrant workers. More specifically migrant children who work for sub-poverty wages across the southern border states.
Harvest is currently in production and should be finished by early next year. The film will be produced by Albie Hecht and his wife Susan MacLaury. They own a non-profit company called Shine Global, which raises awareness about child abuse and exploitation. The producing partners were recognized by AMPAS in 2007 when they received an Oscar nomination for their documentary War Dance. Harvest will also be co-produced and directed by U. Roberto Romano.
