There’s a whole lot of funny on DVD this week as two spring comedy hits roll onto shelves in the form of Date Night and Death at a Funeral. Plus there’s a spring comedy you never heard of called The Joneses (with David Duchovny!)
All that plus a big hit show that I’m not sure anybody has ever heard of, plus the feature that’s sweeping nation highlighting that one DVD you can’t believe actually was released.

Take that Kraken! Although the numbers were close, it looks like the warriors of Clash of the Titans were unable to trimuph over an awkward Date Night with comedian super-stars Tina Fey and Steve Carell. Surprisingly, How to Train Your Dragon (one of those quality animations that I was worried may have never reached its full potential… poor Bolt) which has been in theaters the longest, placed a close third behind the top two, making only $2 million less than Date Night and $1 million less than Clash of the Titans. Go dragons!
Another surprise was the small indie film Letters to God making it on the top ten list without any money or promotion. Go god! (hmmm, doesn’t have the same ring as dragons…)
Check out where Letters to God landed and the full list of numbers below…

This weekend TV staples Tina Fey and Steve Carell hit the big screen in the outlandish comedy Date Night. In the film, “30 Rock’s” Liz Lemon and “The Office’s” Michael Scott play a married couple who get caught up in a bad case of mistaken identity. Both actors are funny, both have a background in improv, and both star in TV shows that air back to back on the same network. Therefore the question has to be asked, when the hell are we going to get a “30 Rock”/”The Office” crossover?

Not too many options this week but that does not mean you don’t have any good films to choose from. Ready to possibly laugh your ass off? Date Night stars the the funny and charming duo Tina Fey and Steve Carell. Fey and Carell play a boring couple who have a adventurous “date night” all caused by one little white lie. Could make for a fun movie night!
If romantic comedy isn’t your thing, you should see Letters to God directed by David Nixon and Patrick Doughtie. It is the heartfelt story of a young boy fighting cancer who writes letters to God. The letters fall into the hands of a postman who is in a crossroads in his life. Last time I checked, it was illegal to open mail not addressed to you but we can overlook that fact for now. Letters to God is based on a true story. The film stars Tanner Maguire and Jeffrey Johnson.

Tina Fey returns to her old stomping grounds at “Saturday Night Live” this week to inject some life into the painfully stale sketch series. The actress will be on board as host to promote her new film Date Night, which co-stars fellow NBC Thursday night staple Steve Carell. Will Fey’s awkward yet irreverent humor be enough to keep our eyes open for the duration of the show? Here’s a look at her promo for the upcoming episode…

A while ago we reported on an upcoming comedy called Date Night that stars funnyman Steve Carell and funny lady, Tina Fey. The film is directed by Shawn Levy and centers on a married couple who’s lives end up in danger during one of their routine “date nights.” The earlier cast included Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Taraji P. Henson, Kristen Wiig, Leighton Meester, and Common. Three more names have been added to this list, and I think they’ll make some great additions to those already involved.
Check out the latest cast update after the jump.
