ms jc 08 Review: Doubt Streep Vs. Hoffman

Written and directed by John Patrick Shanley, Doubt, adapted for the screen, stars Oscar winners Philip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep, and is supported by Oscar nominee, Amy Adams. Set in the early 1960’s at a Catholic elementary school in the Bronx, Father Flynn (Hoffman), a charismatic priest, is attempting to modernize the school’s Catholic customs – strictly enforced by the rigid Sister Aloysius (Streep). Struggling to fit in as the school’s first black student, Donald Miller, takes a particular liking to Father Flynn – a liking that is certainly reciprocated. Suspicious, and confident in her certainty regarding the true whereabouts of their relationship, Sister Aloysius embarks on a relentless mission to eliminate Fr. Flynn, and restore order in her community.  Continue Reading

doubt08 12 10 Movie Releases: The Day the Earth Stood Still, Doubt, The Reader

You’ve got Doubt, The Reader, and Gran Torino. Talk about pulling out the big guns. You’ve got some of the top actors of all time, all giving amazing performances in well known, books, plays, etc. Then there is, Wendy and Lucy, it looks a tad slow, but everyone who has seen it says it’s amazing. I know you’ll all be at an IMAX seeing The Day the Earth Stood Still, but make it a double. Something to feed the eyes and your brain.

Here are this weeks movie releases:

Awards: The Golden Globe Noms Lead by Button, Frost, and Doubt

goldenglobes08 12 10 Awards: The Golden Globe Noms Lead by Button, Frost, and Doubt

Looks like the most popular films this year for the The Golden Globes are: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt and Frost/Nixon. Each film nabbed five nominations including best actor, best feature, and more.

There were a few surprises:

  • Tom Cruise managed to get a nomination for his supporting role in Tropic Thunder, along with Downey Jr. Looks like there might be some tension at that table.
  • Heath Ledger (not really a surprise) was also nominated for best supporting actor in The Dark Knight.
  • Milk was only nominated once. Sean Penn managed to get a nod for Best Actor. I would have liked to have seen 1-2 more nominations for this film.
  • The Dark Knight was not picked for best feature (is this a prelude to the Oscars?)
  • Also, has anyone even seen Revolutionary Road?

Trailer: Doubt

Thursday, September 25, 2008 6:51PM - By

I know this is a little bit of old news, but I just LOVE this trailer. Out of all the films coming out this Winter, this is the one I just can’t wait for. Meryl Streep plays a malicious nun who accuses a priest played by Philip Seymour Hoffman of sexually assaulting a young boy. Doubt was on Broadway for some time and received amazing review. Having two great actors backed by great material, it makes the $12 a the cinema seem worth it! I just can’t wait to watch Streep and Hoffman face off in a onscreen dual.

Doubt is set for a December 12th release, check out the trailer now!
