tron21 D23: Tron Producer On Computers Replacing Actors

At the Disney D23 event we were lucky enough to speak to one of the producers of the upcoming sequel Tron Legacy. Steven Lisberger directed the first Tron back in 1982, and serves as a writer and producer this second time around. With so many filmmakers relying so heavily on CGI, we wanted to know if he thought movies were getting to a point where actors could physically be replaced? Could they one day become obsolete? Dun,dun, dun….

Below are some photos (most of which they premiered at Comic-Con) and some details from an interview/panel with the original writer/director Steven Lisberger who is now the producer on the new film, joined with the new Tron Legacy producer, Sean Bailey.

We’ve just snapped some photos from the presentation that includes footage of the Light Cycle, and the infamous Disc game…

Sadly, there was not too much new information on the Tim Burton front at D23. He talked a little bit about why he was interested in taking on Alice in Wonderland.

He managed to dis Disney to the Chairman’s face and in front of a Disney audience by saying that the reason he wanted to make the film is because, “I never saw one… I know you already made one… that did justice to the material.”

Not only did Pepe, the Shrimp Muppet come out and sing a song, but he brought the whole gang, Piggy, Kermet and all out for a song on the Mark Twain boat.

First Pepe kicked Dick Cook off the stage by saying “go greenlight something.” They then sang a song and with the audience clapping along and at the end, the two muppet critics, Statler and Waldorf came on and asked for “Grumpy to come back” and Cook took the stage again to announce that The Muppet movie will be happening!

guillermodeltorokj09 09 08 D23: Disney Double Dare with Guillermo del Toro

Disney goes creepy. Dick Cook, the chairman of Walt Disney announced this morning at a Disney Presentation at D23 that Guillermo del Toro will be leading Disney’s new label “Disney Double Dare You” which will be animated films that are “meant to scare” and be filled with “chills and thrills.”

The project will be lead by Del Toro and is meant to bring back the imaginative and scary  side of Disney. Del Toro was not able to be their in person because he was busy with The Hobbit in New Zealand, but he did make a big screen appearance where he told us that he will be behind all of them and intends to make them a “scary, thrilling experience” like the title alludes to.

lost09 9 10 d23 Videos from the D23 Floor: Lost, Push, and Dancing Crazies...

As I posted earlier, D23 is quite a bit slower than Comic-Con and as a result there was quite a bit of wandering time which was spent on the floor looking at props from the set of “Lost”, watching people dance to either Miley Cyrus or The Village People, or talking to trash cans.

Here are some of the videos we have from wandering the floor today…

ScreenCrave has been reporting on the events at this year’s Disney D23 Expo and one thing is for sure, it’s still got some growing up to do. While we’ve been keeping you updated on all the developing news regarding the event, there has been one thing that all D23 goers have all been saying, where are all the people? They have a similar set up to events like Comic-Con, in fact walking through the hallways, one reminisces of Con days gone by, but the lack of crowding, news and lines make one thing clear… this ain’t no Comic-Con, at least not yet…
