What I believe is sure to be Colin Firth’s Oscar winning film, The King’s Speech (read review) impresses on all levels and so far is the film of 2010. The cast is led by Firth (who should have won an Oscar last year for his role in A Single Man) as King George the VI, a King with a speech impediment who has to turn to the extravagant speech therapist Lionel Logue played by Geoffrey Rush and his wife, Queen Elizabeth played by Helena Bonham Carter. Firth and his supporting cast all put in equally phenomenal performances that will stay with you for some time to come.
The film won the top prize at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and has many more awards on its way. We were lucky enough to have a chance to speak with Firth about his performance in the film, taking on such a challenging role, the obstacles the film is facing with the important albeit foul language in the film and much more…

Get ready for an an award winning film. First time director Tom Ford’s film A Single Man is a refreshing reminder of what going to the theaters should be like. Surprising, heart-warming, depressing, thought-provoking and above all interesting. The film is as beautiful on the surface as it is touching at its core. Not to be confused with the Cohen Brother’s A Serious Man (which is a very different, and good film), A Single Man is a story about a teacher in the 60’s who loses his lover in an accident and is left in a world that he no longer wishes to be a part of. As we all know, last week was pretty uneventful in terms of new movie releases, thankfully, that all changes today. December 11th marks Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation with The Princess and the Frog, which looks gorgeous. Ever since we saw a few clips of it back at Comic-Con all signs point to Disney magic. Peter Jackson’s new movie, The Lovely Bones, has received mixed reviews, but is beautifully shot and hey, it’s Peter Jackson! Fashion designer, Tom Ford‘s new film, A Single Man, starring Colin Firth will be in limited release this wee, but is sure to grow with Oscar buzz. Finally we have Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman‘s latest movie, Invictus, about the relationship between Nelson Mandela and the South African Rugby player, Francois Pienaar, after Mandela was elected President. First time director Tom Ford‘s film A Single Man will be sure to stand out as a precious gem come award season. The film is as beautiful on the surface as it is touching at its core. Not to be confused with the Cohen Brother’s A Serious Man (which is a very different film), A Single Man is the story about a homosexual teacher in the 60′s who loses his lover in an accident and is left in a world that he no longer wishes to be a part of. Instead of focusing on the “they’re gay in the 60′s” angle, the story is simply about the journey of a single man trying to find life again.
Colin Firth excels in the film. From his subtle and yet poignant gestures to his worldly demeanor, he intrigues you every moment of the way. In person, he was soft spoke, charming, intelligent, and extremely lucid on his thoughts about acting and the subject of the movie. Normally I edit down interviews to get to the heart of what people are saying, but everything he said had heart so I’m letting what he said stand as is…

Hot off their announcement of Halloween 3-D, The Weinstein Company has shifted gears to a historical project entitled, The King’s Speech. According to THR, TWC has picked up the rights to produce the film based on the life of British Royal, King George VI. Tom Hooper, whose previous credits include HBO’s Elizabeth I and John Adams is attached to direct.

I have to admit, I totally forgot about this movie. Dorian Gray, the title character from the chilling Oscar Wilde novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray will be appearing in a theater near you. Ben Barnes, the star of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian tackles the role of the hedonistic Gray in this updated adaptation. The film simply goes by the title Dorian Gray, and will put a new spin on the literary classic.
