Mr Poppers Penguins Mr. Poppers Penguins: Movie Review

For the past few years, every time I’ve gone to see a kids movie in the theater, I always take a moment to feel sorry for the parents in the theater.  These days, taking a family of 4 to the theater can cost anywhere between $50 and $75 (Closer to $100, if you’re seeing something in IMAX or 3-D)!  But then, to add insult to injury, more often than not they’ve got to sit through dreck like Alvin and the Chipmunks, or Marmaduke.  Thankfully, there are a handful of movies out that are not only geared towards the satisfaction of children, but the whole family, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins, starring Jim Carrey is one of them.  Check out the rest of the review after the jump…

iron mas 4 23 10 Iron Man 2: Movie Review
It’s time! Iron Man 2 is about to hit theaters! Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. are back with another installment in their witty, yet action packed franchise. There has been so much anticipation for this film since its trailer debuted (which we sweded) last summer at Comic-Con. The sequel is a solid follow up that comes through with everything you would anticipate from Iron Man, but don’t expect to walk out of the theater with the same “wow” feeling you had after the first film. This is a whole different beast…

Casting/Directing News: Banks, Diaz, Macdonald, and More…

castingnews09 4 22 Casting/Directing News: Banks, Diaz, Macdonald, and More...

  • Kate Mara and Clark Gregg have joined Jon Favreaus upcoming film, Iron Man 2, currently shooting in Manhattan Beach, California. There have been no reports on who Mara will be playing but she’ll have something to say/do in the film. Gregg will be reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D from the first film.
  • Cameron Diaz‘s is in final negotiations to take on the lead in a legal comedy titles Bobbie Sue. Apparently, she needs a to lighten up again, after her recent work in My Sister’s Keeper with Alec Baldwin and Abigail Breslin. Warner Brothers bought the spec script by Russell Leigh Sharman, Owen Egerton and Chris Mass in the fall and now Dana Fox is polishing the screenplay.
  • Mark Mylod has signed to direct Columbia’s upcoming romantic comedy starring Anna Faris, Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson in What’s Your Number? The story is about a woman who treks through her sexual past to find Mr. Right, exploring the idea of sexual quotas and whether such numbers matter. No actors are attached to the project yet.
  • Elizabeth Banks will be leading and producing, a new comedy for DreamWorks titled Forever 21. The story goes that Banks brought the spec, written by Mike Culbert and Mike Pellettieri, into the studio and is now pushing the film forward. So far, the storyline has been kept secret, but I’m sure we’ll be hearing more soon!
  • Kevin Macdonald has paired up with New Regency to develop and direct, the film adaptions of the 1955 Isaac Asimov novel The End of Eternity. The film is a “Futuristic tale [which] concerns a ruling class called Eternity whose members can manipulate time and alter history.” Sound cool to me!

Who are you most excited to hear about starting up a new project?Source: Variety and THR

Film Review: Choke

Thursday, September 25, 2008 12:53PM - By

choke09 08 25 Film Review: ChokeChoke is a great film to take a date to if you want how comfortable they are with sex. Depending on their reaction you may or may not want to leave the anal beads out of the action.

What can I say, this film is a fun, dirty romp with a bunch of crazy people that has you smiling (and wincing) all the way. It stays true to the book, while simultaneously standing on it’s own. If you haven’t read Chuck Palahniuk‘s book “Choke,” it won’t make a lick of difference and if you have read the book, he’s added plenty of little details for you to spot. If you haven’t read “Choke” at some point, before or after the film, you really should take the time. There are only so many things Director Clark Gregg could put up on the screen and not have it slip into NC-17 territory, which it gets pretty close to at times.

This was the first time Clark Gregg has directed a film and it’s a well thought out, cohesive, amazing film. He also wrote the film and was able to turn Chuck’s book into a successful script. Chuck Palahniuk even said in a recent BeatCrave interview that “this one was even more verbatim [than Fight Club].” In fact Chuck even went so far to say that he liked the additions that Clark made to the script, “There’s a sort of a third dynamic there that I didn’t do in the book, which is developing a relationship between Ida and Paige Marshall, which I thought Clark had done really, really well in the movie.” (For the full interview with Clark Gregg and Chuck Palahniuk click here).

Interview: Clark Gregg and Chuck Palahniuk of CHOKE

clarfacshot08 09 26 157x240 Interview: Clark Gregg and Chuck Palahniuk of CHOKEchuckheadshot08 0926 158x240 Interview: Clark Gregg and Chuck Palahniuk of CHOKEOn September 26th, audiences will be shocked, entertained, grossed out, and possibly even turned on (you sicko) with the release of the new film CHOKE, from the twisted minds of first time Director and Writer, Clark Gregg and Novelist, Chuck Palahniuk. ScreenCrave was lucky enough to sit down with Clark and Chuck and have a little heart to hard with them about adapting this sexually explicit novel about a sex addict, choker, with a delusional mother to the screen. (Check out Sam Rockwell and Brad William Henke’s interview here.)

The topics may have been dirty, you couldn’t have asked for two more pleasant, well spoken men to discuss the film with. Although the two men appeared to have just met one another for the first time, they seemed to have an extremely similar view on the film, the characters, and the overall tone of CHOKE. Chuck even went so far as to say that this was a closer film adaptation than Fight Club and one he enjoyed.

The first thing out of Clark’s mouth as he sat down to the table was “Good morning. Let’s talk about dirty stuff!” So lets!
