Recently, we had the opportunity to talk to Chris Rock and Nia Long about weaves, wigs, and perms for the new documentary, Good Hair. Rock was inspired to make the film after his daughter asked him why she didn’t have good hair. In her case, she was referring to the European look of straight long tresses, but is that everyone’s ideal? The film features very candid interviews with many African American actresses, including Long and Raven Symone, who talk about the ins-and-outs of their hair.
Here, Chris and Nia talk about the surprising facts they found out about the hair industry, and some of the raw material that didn’t make the theatrical cut.
Check out what they had to say…

I have been itching for this film to come to conventional theaters. Actor/comedian, now documentary filmmaker Chris Rock has decided to place focus on an aspect of the African American community that many don’t talk about, their hair. In his latest film Good Hair, Rock decides to take a refreshing look at the billion dollar Black hair industry and how it effects everyone from actors and politicians to your average Joe. As an African American myself I’m excited to see his spin on such a hot topic!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Sundance Film Festival. Starting on January 15th and running through the 25th, the festival will turn the sleepy ski town of Park City, Utah and neighboring cities into a bustling hub for independent filmmakers, journalists, celebrities, and film connoisseurs.
With my long underwear and earmuffs already packed, I will be at Sundance for the opening weekend and first half of the festival. In a mere 6 days I will be seeing 13 feature films, several short films, and various panels with directors and actors.

FEATURE FILMS
Max Payne
Starring: Mark Wahlberg
Remember when this movie came out? Yeah, didn’t think so. This movie was promoted heavily during the start of the NFL season and somehow almost beat The Dark Knight to DVD. So what was the problem? Well, it’s a video game movie – always a problem since they all suck. Secondly, it was based on a character that hasn’t been relevant for nearly a decade. It’s not like it was “Halo”.
