In what amounts to a fairy-tale version of The Avengers, DreamWorks new film Rise of the Guardians assembles The Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher), Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), The Sandman, and The Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman) to fight against the Boogeyman, Pitch (Jude Law). There’s no word if The Skrulls are involved, though Star Trek‘s Chris Pine is also in the cast. Check out the trailer below…
Theoretically, McG‘s This Means War is a perfect twist on the romantic comedy. You’ve often got possible lovers fighting over one person, so why not have them be people who can actually fight? Reese Witherspoon [interview] stars as the girl stuck between two deep cover operatives (Tom Hardy, Chris Pine) in this surprisingly unpleasant riff on the cinematic romantic triangle.
The premise of This Means War is stupidly irresistable. Chris Pine and Tom Hardy play secret agents. Both end up dating Reese Witherspoon. She seems to be a normal girl, but their interest gets so heightened that they use their spy tools on each other. Director McG may have a real winner on his hands. Check out the trailer…
In what may have been inevitable, J.J. Abrams has finally signed on to direct Star Trek 2. Though Paramount was hot for the sequel after the first film’s impressive domestic showing, Abrams went on to direct Super 8, and Hollywood considered turning Chris Pine into a movie star (there were a number of rumors about what he would do next, but mostly there’s been Unstoppable). Production is supposed to start later this year for what is more than likely a 2013 summer release date.
While James Bond fans scored a big one today, fans of the Jack Ryan film franchise (The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears) will have to keep holding their collective breaths—Paramount is putting the spy franchise on the back burner as the new Jack Ryan, Chris Pine, is going to be busy starring as Captain Kirk in the rushed-release of Star Trek 2 next summer.
Back in September, we reported that Chris Pine was in negotiations to star in a developing film called Welcome to People. Yes, the title sounds strange but the story is even stranger. The film will mark screenwriter Alex Kurtzman’s (Lost, Star Trek) directorial debut. And according to THR, he’s landed another actor for it in the form of the talented Elizabeth Banks.
Last week we spoke with Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson and director Tony Scott about their upcoming, non-stop, action-thrill-ride, Unstoppable. This commences the fifth time that Washington and Scott have joined forces to create a movie together. It seems like as long as you have these two together, add a few explosions, a chase scene, a sexy lady (dressed to make her look like a “regular girl” – tip boys, Rosario Dawson will NEVER look average), and you are in fact unstoppable at the box office! Throw in a sexy new-comer and you’ve got it made.

Alex Kurtzman is breaking away from his long time writing partner Roberto Orci to do his own thing. As one of the minds behind “Lost,” “Fringe,” Transformers, and Star Trek (just to name a few) Kurtzman is ready to move on to bigger things. The screenwriter is trying his hand at directing and it looks like the new James Kirk is in talks for the lead. We’re looking at you Chris Pine.
