While the big summer buzz is mostly attached to The Avengers, Prometheus, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises, Snow White and The Huntsman has been steadily building up steam on the way to its June 1 premiere. Wow. I mean, seriously, WOW. The Cabin in the Woods is unlike any horror film you will ever see, bending not only the horror genre on its totally whacked ear but twisting all kinds of other cinematic techniques as well. Though The Hunger Games may have set the event film bar higher with its record-breaking $155 Million opening, the summer movie season is only a few weeks away and it’s going to kick off with The Avengers – which is looking to be a monster of a release. Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are heading up the big-screen action-fantasy film version of Snow White and the Huntsman, and it feels weird to say this, but man does this look right. Perhaps it’s films like Mirror, Mirror that set the tone for films like this – we’re used to redresses of classic fairy tales done in a mockish style – but there’s something about this trailer that suggests scale and it never feels cloying about its origins. Check out the full trailer…

The latest and possibly most grotesque trend in marketing is now to offer a preview of an upcoming trailer. Or – to put it bluntly – a trailer for a trailer. These thirty second clips tease the images that will be teased at greater length in the near future. We’ve seen it with Super Bowl ads, and now we’re seeing it as a common practice for tentpole releases. Why not drag out the hype a couple more days with this sort of promotion? The latest is for Snow White and the Huntsman. Check it out.
