When you think of the Great American Novel set in the roaring 1920s, you think of 3D films with an Auto-Tuned soundtrack, right? Well, if so, you’ll dig the trailer for Baz Luhrman’s over the top take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. If not, well… you may wish to look away for the next two minutes and 30 seconds.
Despite the fact that it’s taking a classic piece of American literature and turning it into a 3-D film, Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby might not be quite as horrible as we first thought. Of course, I’m basing this opinion simply on a few photos that have leaked out from the set, but, that said, these do seem to capture, in their own small way, the mood and tone of the book.

After a career changing two years, Carey Mulligan is ready to leave Hollywood to focus on theater. The British actress is set to appear in the play Through a Glass Darkly, on the New York stage. Mulligan actually began her career doing plays and musicals, and this run will give her the opportunity to go back to her roots.
The cast of Steve McQueen’s latest feature Shame just picked up an Oscar nominee. According to Variety, Carey Mulligan has joined the film alongside Michael Fassbender who will play the lead. The King’s Speech dominated the 13th Annual British Independent Film Awards Sunday night winning in six major categories. Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter won for their acting roles. David Seidler won for writing the Best Screenplay, and the movie itself won Best British Independent Film. It didn’t take long for director Baz Luhrmann to get Carey Mulligan on board with his adaptation of the literary classic, The Great Gatsby. Last week we reported that Mulligan had rose to the top of the shortlist of actresses who were in the running for the part of Daisy Buchanan, when Scarlett Johansson became unavailable.
