tarantino vs Possible Time Cut for Inglourious Basterds

After Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Universal decided that the film needed some adjustments and sent Tarantino back into the editing room.

According to The Wrap, The Weistein Company (Inglourious Basterds production company) wants Tarantino to cut 40 full minutes from the film. The question is, are they trying to cut it short so that appeals to more people and they can make more cash? After all, they can always release the Director’s cut later on. Maybe, maybe not, but one thing is for sure; a film with a running time of 2’40” is too long, especially for American audiences. Although as we have discussed many of Tarrantino’s past films have had long run times. Continue Reading

Startup distributor Oscilloscope has picked up the rights to Michel Gondry‘s new project, The Thorn in the Heart a documentary which recently wrapped the Cannes Film Festival. Gondry seemed excited at the prospect of his new distributors…

“So I called up my best friend Etienne and told him, ‘Guess who’s distributing my documentary about my aunt?’ and he said, ‘who?’ and I said, ‘MCA from Beastie Boys’ and Etienne said, ‘The Beastie Boy bought your Aunt’s documentary?! Get the f*** out of here!’ and I said, ‘Yeah!!!’”

Although Gondry is attached to more mainstream films such as his much loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the upcoming superhero flick, The Green Hornet he also has a love for documentaries and has decided to turn to his own family for material.

inglouriousbasterdskj09 05 23 Inglourious Basterds Is Headed Back to the Editing Room

Inglourious Basterds premiered at the Cannes Film Festival a few days ago to mixed reviews. Apparently the movie was lacking a few key elements, so to better the film, Universal wants some edits made. Director, Quentin Tarantino stated the film is, ”[going] to the editing room post-Cannes to make some edits that might include adding a scene.“ Inglourious Basterds is supposed to have a run time of a whopping 2 hours 40 minutes, but it actually only ran for 2 hours 28 minutes. Therefore, the film is technically under it’s contractual obligation of 2 hours 40 minutes.

brad pitt1 Inglourious Basterds: Cannes Film Festival Roundup

Quentin Tarantinos Inglourious Basterds was shown to the International press at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Overall the film has gotten mixed reviews; some absolutely loved the film, and others absolutely hate it. Brad Pitt seems to be the main cause of concern and praise. Personally, I’ve always thought that Pitt is better comedic actor than a serious actor.

Let’s see what our fellow critics have to say about it…
