You’re in for a VERY special treat this weekend, and I’m in for my third viewing of one of my new favorite films, The Guard (read Sundance review). This is one of the most finely performed, hysterical and well made films that I’ve seen in years thanks to a phenomenal performance from the big man himself, Brendan Gleeson, who stars as an instigating, unpredictable, bored cop or “guard” as they say in Ireland.
There’s no doubt in my mind that this film will become a classic and that his lines will be quoted for some time to come. Find out what it was like for him to pair up with another McDonagh and create such a fine character…

Brendan Gleeson is a force to be reckoned with as Sergeant Gerry Boyle, a small town cop living outside of Galway in Christopher Michael McDonagh’s new film The Guard. Don Cheadle and Liam Cunningham turn in solid supporting role performances, but the the heart of this film and why you want to see it is because of Sergeant Boyle; a man who’s either “really motherfucking dumb or really motherfucking smart,” in the words of Don Cheadle’s character. You will see this movie and you will want to see it again.

Maybe I missed something, but this is the first I’ve heard of Green Zone. Matt Damon has teamed up again with Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass in an action packed war thriller, about “a rogue U.S. Army officer who must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil before war escalates in an unstable region.” The film has a strong supporting cast including Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson, Amy Ryan, Khalid Abdalla and Jason Isaacs.
You would have thought that we would have heard more about this by now. Oh well! It’s here now with a bang. Check out the first action packed trailer and some stills from the film below…
