fraserjconov19 Brendan Fraser to Appear on Broadway in Elling

Brendan Fraser hasn’t had tremendous luck when it comes to holding on to stardom. Nineties nostalgia fans will always adore him for his role as a thawed out caveman in Encino Man and he had some success as an Indiana Jones rip-off character in The Mummy and its subsequent sequels, but he’s faded from the public eye in recent years. Even an appearance in Best Picture winner Crash hasn’t been enough to revive his career.

Not that he seems all that bothered by the state of things. Fraser has taken the stage on Broadway as a former asylum patient and mechanic in the play “Elling,” adapted from a series of Norwegian novels that were also made into a play and film in their home country.

Extraordinary Measures: Movie Review

extraordinary measures 1 14 10 Extraordinary Measures: Movie Review

I know what you’re thinking. ANOTHER depressing movie about dying children… but stay with me for a few minutes, this one has a little more to offer than just man-made tears. I normally skip out on films like these because I hate being manipulated by a filmmaker who thinks making you cry means they’re doing something meaningful. This is NOT that kind of movie. Extraordinary Measures is a smart film that doesn’t go for the easy tears or the over dramatic violins. It presents you with an unfortunate situation and tells you a story about a family who fights tooth and nail to make the impossible a reality.

Journey to the Center of the Earth Sequel in the Works

journeytothecenter09 3 12 Journey to the Center of the Earth Sequel in the Works

It’s one thing to remake Batman, Iron Man, or something of that nature, but Journey to the Center of the Earth? I thought this movie bombed. In fact in my mind, it had! I was so sure of it that I actually went to check the numbers to prove to you that this movie had no right to have a sequel. I mean how could a movie that bad, make that much money (please don’t mention Paul Blart).

The numbers did not exactly support my opinion. It cost $60 million to make and made $240,648,578 worldwide. Well. That’s it. We can’t even have the quality argument with numbers like that. There will be a sequel. I will make a lot of money. It won’t be good. But will it have Brendan Fraser the one thing that made it almost bearable?

Review: Inkheart

inkheart1fk0 Review: Inkheart

Remember after school reading programs? The annual book fair, or dare I say the “Bookmobile?” After watching Lain Softley’s adaptation of Cornelia Funke’s novel Inkheart, that’s all I could think of. With a story submerged in children’s literature, it’s easy to feel as if you’re being held captive in a library instead of a theater. Inkheart makes an attempt to follow in the  footsteps of Narnia, and The Golden Compass, with it’s fantasy driven theme, special effect’s, and Oscar winning cast, but doesn’t quite make it.
