The Book of Eli marks the theatrical return of the directing team of Albert and Allen Hughes. The brothers are known for their gritty urban dramas like Menace II Society and Dead Presidents, but for the new decade they’ve decided to go in a different direction. Eli is a post-apocalyptic Western that has elements of an action thriller as well as a religious epic. Albert and Allen Hughes, most commonly known as The Hughes Brothers aren’t your typical directing team. Not only are they brothers but they’re twin brothers, who both have a strong connection to their craft. The last time the duo directed a major film was 2001′s From Hell, a horror thriller that starred Johnny Depp and Heather Graham. Before that they helmed 1999′s American Pimp, 1995′s Dead Presidents, and their breakout debut in 1993, Menace II Society. Book of Eli marks their first feature of the new decade, led by two time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, and Jennifer Beals.
After speaking to both directors individually, I got a clear understanding of how they work. They have a gift that allows them to see things that the average viewer, or fellow filmmaker wouldn’t notice at first glance. Finding the truth in a story and making their audience believe it wholeheartedly is their mission, and they’ve stood buy that for almost two decades. Denzel Washington will hit the big screen early next year in the post apocalyptic flick, The Book of Eli. The film is directed by the Hughes brothers and has an all star cast including the ridiculously talented Gary Oldman. Three new character banners have been released that feature Washington as Eli, Oldman as Carnegie, and Mila Kunis as the young apprentice, Solara.

One of the many press conferences we attended at Comic-Con was for the Book of Eli with Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, and Directors Albert and Allen Hughes. Sadly, it’s very hard when transcribing which brother is which. In fact, even when watching the videos it’s hard to tell which twin is which, unless I look at the signs in front of them. Can’t one of them choose a different facial hair style or something?. I did my best, but some of the below might be swapped. The Book of Eli trailer has just been released and Denzel Washington is back as his bad self. In this film, Washington stars as a post-apocalyptic action hero and the trailer does have an I Am Legend feel to it. Like Will Smith, Washington is a lonely warrior out to save the world. Regardless of the similarities, anything with Washington in it, is worth watching for me, and this trailer might be what you need to want to see Book of Eli.
