It looks like Nolan has decided to cash in on some of his success with Warner Brothers in order to pursue some of his own work.
According to THR Nolan’s next film will not be Batman 3, but will be a project which was written by Nolan himself. The film is titled Inception and is described as a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” The plan is to begin shooting this Summer release the film in Summer 2010. No further details have been revealed at this time, but don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye on it.
So, is this good or bad for Batman 3?

Over at IESB, Jeff Otto tried to break producer Chuck Roven on the current status of the next Batman film. Although they’re saying that they have inside sources and that they’re almost sure a script is in the works, it doesn’t sound like Roven was ready to break.
IESB: We’ve been told that Jonathan, Chris and David are working on the new Batman script. Do you know the direction they’re going or do you wait for them to formulate something more complete before you get involved?
Chuck Roven: The creative driver of the project at this point is Chris. There’s really nothing more for me to say about that. When he feels that he’s got something to talk about, then we’ll be able to talk about it.

What? I thought as long as we’re making completely pointless rumors, I might at least join in on the fun! The Sun recently “reported” (I use that term very loosely) that Eddie Murphy and Shia LaBeouf were signed on to Nolan’s third Batman film currently called “Gotham.”
FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal.
The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.
Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin.
Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.

Everyone seems to think they have the in on the third Nolan Batman film. As of today, E!Online is busy telling everyone that Batman 3 is “definitely” in the works and that Rachel Weisz will be playing Catwoman. I smell big fat rumor. They’re saying that:
The next Batman installment is alive and kicking—definitely. We already mentioned today certain Warners sources are leaking to us that Rachel Weisz is being considered for the Catwoman role, too fab. But Warners officially isn’t saying bubkes.
Despite some recent interviews in which he down-played the possibility of returning as director again, Christopher Nolan (who helmed Knight) will for sure be back directing the third flick, we’re assured by a production mole. Christian Bale will obviously rejoin his director pal, and we’re very pleased to report that he’ll be playing a “sexier” Bruce Wayne. This is heaven-sent news, as, let’s face it, Bale couldn’t have looked any more constipated in that last flick.

After making on of the most successful films of all time, the only rational question to ask is, “what’s next?” We’ve talked about possible villains, characters returning, and what will happen to the Joker without Ledger. But up to now, everything basically just been fanboy talk. Luckily, Christopher Nolan had a chance to take a break from accepting awards to speak with LA Times writer Geoff Boucher about the third Batman film. Sounds like Nolan isn’t prepared to jump on any bandwagons until he knows he can at least equal the quality of his most recent hit.
Check out a bit of the interview below:
