Avatar is the most successful (unadjusted) film to ever play in American theaters, but though James Cameron has been talking sequels, it’s hard to weigh the film’s cultural weight. Perhaps the blue paint has kept it from being a hot-button Halloween costume (that and the nudity), but it’s two years later, and it’s unknown when it will it be sequelized, and there doesn’t seem to be much passion in the air for the film. Perhaps Disneyworld will stoke those fires, as they’ve announced they will start construction on Avatar-themed areas in 2013.

Well, you’re in luck because the Oscar winning director recently opened about about his plans for the projects. Earlier this week, James Cameron appeared at a special 3D event promoting his latest film Sanctum. He serves as producer along with Andrew Wight, while Alister Grierson takes on directing duties. The movie is based on actual events and takes viewers into a world of cave diving and illustrates its many dangers. All three men were in attendance at Universal City Walk, where they spoke about the use of 3D in this smaller film in comparison to Cameron’s epic Avatar. Surprisingly, they all felt that Sanctum does a much better job of submerging an audience in the 3D world.
Check out some video of Cameron at the event as he explains his reasoning below…

Out of all the year-end movie lists to come out this week, this is by far the most controversial. Over at TorrentFreak, they’ve named the Top 10 Most Pirated Movies of 2010 and we have to say the number one pick was slightly surprising. Avatar topped the list while the number two spot was taken by a comic book film that really could have used the extra bump at the box office. Check out the complete list below…

Here’s the bad news: There is absolutely no TV on DVD being released this week. None whatsoever. Well, at least none of note (something tells me Season 5 of Perry Mason doesn’t really resonate with the Internet crowd) so there will be no section on the small screen for maybe the first time in the history of this column.
The good news: There is a TON of new feature films being released this week. Everything you could want from indie critical darling of The Kids Are All Right to the disappointing “3-D” blockbuster attempt of The Last Airbender and all points in between.
So we’re blowing up the format this week with a blurb about the eight feature films being released this week. And, don’t worry, we didn’t forget about informing you of that one little nugget of DVD badness either.
Check it out below…
