Normally at these Comic-Con panels, the stars don’t generally go into great detail about other future projects. It seems like that is left for the actual press conferences, as opposed to panels. However, that is not the case with Jason Bateman. During the Extract panel, he discussed the progress of the Arrested Development movie.

Michael Cera isn’t the only child star from the Fox series Arrested Development making career moves. Do you remember Alia Shawkat? She played Mae “Maeby” Funke, the daughter of Portia Di Rossi and David Cross on the show. I haven’t seen her around lately, so I was a bit pleased to hear that she may be up for a high profile film gig. According to Latino Review the young actress may star in the upcoming punk biopic, The Runaways.

Some TV shows turned movie are recipes for disaster (remember how The Simpsons Movie turned out after all that anticipation?), but it’s hard to deny that a big screen version of Arrested Development would be a side-splitter.
Based on comments from Ron Howard at the Oscars and the recent report from E! that Michael Cera has agreed to making the film, I’d say that an Arrested Development movie is a sure deal and we’ll be hearing about a production plan very soon.
Howard told MTV that he met with the show’s writer Michael Hurwitz last Friday and said, “Things are going really well. He’s writing.” Those are reassuring words, but Howard also indicated that with the film getting more hype, he would have to be careful about revealing spoilers.

I personally can’t wait for the Arrested Development movie. The show was so brilliant, it needs to be revived. Although for one reason or another, the movie seems to be be lagging. Not long ago executive producer Mitch Hurwitz basically blamed Michael Cera for the hold-up, but now Michael Cera sets the rumors straight on why the movie is not getting off the ground.
Just to catch you all up to speed, Hurwitz had stated:
So what of the rumors that new dad Will Arnett and shiny movie star Michael Cera are the only two remaining holdouts?
“I don’t want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don’t want to pressure anyone through the press,” said Hurwitz. “Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there’s a big clue!”
