With all the recent (and not so recent) hints and speculation about his proposed superhero film Ant-Man, it seems Edgar Wright has finally put us straight on the matter – sort of – by announcing that he hopes to start shooting the film this year. The project has long been in development from the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Shaun of the Dead director, and now things finally seem to be moving in the right direction.

One of the geek hits to come out of South by Southwest is Joe Cornish‘s Attack the Block, which was executive produced by Edgar Wright. Cornish and Wright have worked together for years, and also wrote the upcoming Steven Spielberg film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. With the two of them doing press on their latest effort, their long-in-development film of Marvel comic’s Ant-Man was bound to come up, and they teased some information to The Playlist. The money quote from Cornish: “We’re currently working on it, not right now. But the day after tomorrow we’ll go to Los Angeles and…”

Today, during an interview with Edgar Wright for his amazing new film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, he ever so slightly mentioned Ant-Man. Though he’s still in Pilgrim land and not quite focused on any upcoming projects, he was able to enlighten us a bit on the property and his working relationship with Marvel Chief, Kevin Feige. At the moment, the adaptation still seems vague and “in the works” but you can easily tell there’s something in the air. If Wright does decide to direct Ant-Man, and it’s anywhere near as good as Pilgrim, I’m in!

For the past year it feels like comic book fans have been strung along by Marvel and their live action Ant-Man adaptation. The film’s been in development for years with British helmer Edgar Wright attached to direct. Stan Lee has gone Marvel mad with the recent tweets coming from his Twitter page today. The comic book legend dropped a bunch of hints regarding the upcoming roster of Marvel releases including, Ant-Man. He claims that he recently met up with director Edgar Wright to discuss the property, and they hit it off. He also dished on a few second string characters that the studio plans on bringing to the big screen.
