Adventureland Review

adventureland09 2 26 Adventureland Review

Adventureland is like a more grown up version of Superbad, and not just in terms of the situations and relationships, but also in terms of the overall film. It’s almost like we’re watching Director Greg Mottola grow up in front of us via film. First, in Superbad he took us through what it’s like being a teenager whose only goal in life is to get wasted and laid and now in Adventureland we see him become his own man who can’t find a job or commit to a woman. I hate comparing the two films, because they are independently amazing, but I can’t help but notice a number of recurring themes that give them both a definitive Mottola stamp. I can say that this film has taken everything that Superbad one step further, and as a result, it’s even greater than the first.

moviereleaseskj09 04 02 Movie Releases: Fast & Furious, Adventureland, Sugar...

This week has an interesting line-up of films to see. First of all, Vin Diesel is back in all of his glory with Fast & Furious. Chances are it will be pretty dumb, yet ever so entertaining at the same time. Greg Mottola, the director of Superbad is back with another comedy, Adventureland, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart about a group of rejects forced to work a job at an amusement park during the 80′s. Score! Next on the list is Sugar; the story of a baseball player from the Dominican Republic who is pursuing his dream of playing baseball in the United States in hopes of creating a better life for his family. This is supposed to be a great movie.

Check out all the movie releases for the week of 4/3/09 below:

Greg Mottola Interview for Adventureland

greg mottola09 4 01 Greg Mottola Interview for Adventureland

The mastermind behind Superbad brings us another amazing, real- life, hilarious, 80′s theme park film, Adventureland. There is no doubt about it, writer/director Greg Mottola knows his comedy and after hanging out with him for 20 minutes you get why. He’s passionate about film and he puts everything he has into it, without taking himself too seriously. Plus, he’s also insanely funny. He’s got a wicked sense of humor and is not afraid to call out an interviewer on a stupid question – I love that.

Adventureland has been a project long time coming. For over seven years, Mottola was trying to get the film off the ground, but just when he was starting to get somewhere with it, this guy named Judd Apatow came up to him and asked him if he’d like to make Superbad. After he finished that little epic comedy, he decided to take his success and finally get his film off the ground and luckily for us, he was able to.

Check out what Mottola has to say about working in a Apatow world, creating the characters in his films, and his upcoming project Paul with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

bill hader Bill Hader Looks to Join Frost and Pegg in Paul

Funnyman Bill Hader can soon be seen in this month’s Adventureland, and every week on Saturday Night Live. In the past two years Hader has been making his mark in feature film by popping up in such hits as Superbad and Tropic Thunder. According to FilmSchoolRejects he’s on his way to co-starring in another feature alongside British powerhouses Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

We previously reported that Pegg and Frost were teaming up for the Greg Mattola comedy Paul. The film centers on “two British comic book geeks who travel together across the United States, experiencing the highlights of American culture along the way.” Not only will the actors star in the film, but they also co-wrote the script. In a recent interview Hader spoke about Paul and the possibility of him making an appearance.

adventureland09 2 26 Red Band Adventureland Trailer

Staring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Bill Hader, Kristen Wig, Ryan Reynolds, this is sure to be one of the best comedies of the summer. The film is based off a rich kid who is forced to get a job at an Amusement Park. The film is set in 1987, because let’s face it, the 80’s were awesome. Although the last trailer was fun, we didn’t get everything they had to offer…

Now we get to find out how many different ways they can say “fuck!” Check it out in the trailer below…

adventurelan08 11 23 TRAILER: Superbad director Greg Mottolas Adventureland

Superbad director Greg Mottola introduces a trailer for his new film Adventureland. Co-starring Kristen Stewart (AKA The girl from Twilight), Ryan Reynolds, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Martin Star the film is based off a rich kid who is forced to get a job at an Amusement Park. The film is set in 1987, because let’s face it, the 80′s were awesome. With plenty of awkward teenage coming of age jokes (still can’t get that “dance/grind” scene from Superbad out of my head no matter how hard I try) and a sweet little love story to boot, looks like Mottolaay may have made another awesome teen comedy for all ages.
