Remakes are a tricky business, but they’re a huge chunk of the world of horror these days. The trend was kicked off by the surprising success of 2003′s Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and since then we’ve seen many of the beloved horror films from the 1970’s and 80’s rebooted for a modern audience. The makers of the 2011 film The Thing sidestepped remaking John Carpenter’s cult masterpiece by going the prequel root – it’s basically the same story, but without using the same characters. Which keeps it from being blasphemous for horror fans, but in doing so tells a story no one needed to know.

For many, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will always be known as Mr. Eko from Lost, but the versatile actor turned that run into a strong film career, which has led him to work with Robert De Niro (in Killer Elite) and was one of the stars of G.I. Joe. In The Thing, the 2011 prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter film of the same name he plays Derrick Jameson, who is partnered with Joel Edgerton’s character as a helicopter pilot. He channels his inner Steve McQueen and plays a man on a deadly mission for revenge. Nothing and no one will get between him and his targets. It’s just him, an old school car, a revolver, and the unlucky suckers who have targets on their backs.

Paramount Pictures have released a video of G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra director Stephen Sommers in Paris discussing his upcoming film. The featurette shows the director talking about one of the pivotal action sequences of the movie (the accelerator suit chase scene), which has been getting a lot of buzz around the internet. In the chase, Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) get dressed in these automated suits that allow them to run faster, jump higher and even withstand being hit by a car, or three.
