Rise of the Planet of the Apes isn’t giving up easily. The sci-fi thriller clung to the No. 1 spot for a second weekend leaving behind new films like The Help, Final Destination 5 and 30 Minutes of Less. The Tate Taylor 60′s Southern film fell a few million short from Apes, and came in at No. 2 with $25.5 million. Unlike what we predicted, Final Destination 5 was far from the top spot. The horror franchise followed The Help with $18.4 million. The Jesse Eisenberg comedy had a humble opening of $13 million; while Glee The 3D Concert Movie didn’t even break into the top ten. Somethings are just better left on television. Check out the numbers…

Box Office Predictions: The Final Destination is the Top Spot

Final Destination 5 Jaqueline MacInnes Wood Nicholas DAgosto 24 11 10 kc Box Office Predictions: The Final Destination is the Top Spot

Four new movies crowd this end of summer weekend. As TV and radio are bombarded with back to school ads, Final Destination 5, The Help, 30 Minutes or Less, and Glee the 3D Concert Movie hit the big screen. It’s a weekend that becomes a theater palette-cleanser, as the hangers-on’s that have still been playing on a couple of screens finally leave. This is bad news for films like Friends With Benefits, or The Change Up – even Cowboys and Aliens. If the goal was to have less competition from A-list titles, it’s hard to stem the tide of new products, and next week there’s also four wide releases. Check out our predictions…

30MinsorLess Jesse Azziz8 3 11 30 Minutes or Less: Movie Review

This week in theaters, actor Jesse Eisenberg reunites with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer in one of the most easy-to-watch, entertaining comedies of the summer, 30 Minutes or Less. From its stellar comedic cast to it’s fast-paced storyline that never leaves you hanging, I found this to be one of the most straight-forward movies that delivers what we all want when we go to see a comedy, lots of laughs in 83 minutes, no more no less…

30minsorless Ruben Fleischer8 3 11 Interview 1 1: Ruben Fleischer Talks 30 Minutes or Less

One of my favorite films of the summer is on it’s way into theaters with a bang. 30 Minutes or Less starring Jesse Eisenberg is a fast-paced, easy-to-watch, extremely funny comedy with some fine performances and a storyline that won’t leave you hanging. Though we were able to speak to the film Ruben Fleischer while he was on the set of the film (read interview), I also had the chance to catch up with him recently for a one on one to find out more now that the film is all said and done and what he has going on in the future (it’s really cool!)…

jesseesinberg8 9 11 Interview 1 1: Jesse Eisenberg Talks Serious Comedy

This week in theaters, Jesse Eisenberg, one of the most serious actor working in comedies, impresses audience once again with his keen wit and layered performance, as he reunites with director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) once again in the fast-paced, easy to watch comedy 30 Minutes or Less. A short while ago we published our interview with him from the set of the film, now that he’s had some distance, an Oscar nod, and some time to reflect, find out what he loves about comedy, how he stays true to his indie roots, and how appreciative he is of everything that he’s worked for…

jesse eisenberg5 3 11 c 30 Minutes or Less Red Band Trailer is a Winner

If you’re going to end on a high, it’s good to have one as good as the punchline to “you just brought a gun to a bomb show.” The latest trailer for 30 Minutes or Less - which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride and Nick Swarsdon – is red banded, so the jokes are filthier and also hilarious. The film opens August 12, and the new trailer is their best ad yet. Check it out…

While on our set visit of director Ruben Fleischer‘s 30 Minutes or Less, we had to chance to talk to supposed twins Aziz Ansari and Dilshad Vadsaria — it’s a bit of a stretch to see them as twins, but we’ll go with it since she’s so charming and he’s so hilarious. They might not share the same gene-pool but the two of them were so much fun to interview together because or their off screen brother/sister dynamic.

Sadly, they were not shooting anything the day we were there so we were so we weren’t able to see all their work in action, but they were hanging around the set and kind enough to join us during our lunch to chat about their roles in the film. Find out more below…

30 Minutes or Less Set Visit: Ruben Fleischer Interview

ruben5 10 11 30 Minutes or Less Set Visit: Ruben Fleischer Interview

Back in August of 2010, which now seems like a million years ago now, I had the privilege of attending the set of Ruben Fleischer‘s upcoming comedy 30 Minutes or Less. They shot the film out in Michigan (good tax breaks!) and we were able watch them shot a scene in which Danny McBride and Nick Swardson strap a bomb to Jesse Eisenberg and mess him up a bit. The scene was supposed to be (and actually was shot) in a junk yard, though they re-decorated their area of the junk yard to look more cinematic (gotta love Hollywood!).

The day was hot and long and much like any set, there was a lot of down time and setting up. As we all know comedy is a serious business and though Ruben’s films are hilarious, while on set he’s extremely serious and on point. What gives him his edge is that he seems to create an environment that’s professionally run, and yet he still encourages and pushes his actors to take risks and most importantly, play!

30minsorless danny5 9 11 30 Minutes or Less Set Visit: Danny McBride and Nick Swardson

Since we just posted Jessie Eisenberg‘s serious, detailed interpretation of what it was like being on set and shooting Ruben Fleischer’s upcoming comedy 30 Minutes or Less, we thought it would be nice to balance it out with an equally light-hearted and humorous interview with the power comedy duo Danny McBride and Nick Swardson. Though these boys are working hard, there’s not much stopping them for also having fun. And one thing’s for sure, nothing about film-making is too precious, there’s always a reason to crack a joke to not make a joke about, especially when press is about…
