This afternoon in Comic Con’s Hall H, screenwriter and Lost co-creator Damon Lindeloff, joined by star Charlize Theron, presented a short behind the scenes look at Ridley Scott’s much rumored Prometheus. The panel also included a special visit live via satellite from Sir Ridley himself, as well as cast member Noomi Rapace, all the way from the movie’s set in Iceland. One of the most interesting bits of news to come out of CinemaCon is the new retail strategy by Warner Brothers, Universal, 20th Century Fox and Sony to offer theatrical movies two months after release on DirectTV for $30 dollars a pop. Theater owners are protesting, but they’ve been protesting video windows since studios have been shortening the release window to save advertising dollar.

The actor seems to be everywhere these days and he’s showing no signs of stopping. Over the past year 20th Century Fox has been promising us a Deadpool spin-off. Yet, its development has been moving at the rate of frozen molasses, and star Ryan Reynolds‘ ever growing roster of movies isn’t helping. Even though the studio has treated the project like an unwanted step-child for months they’re still very protective of the project. According to THR, they have filed a lawsuit against a New York woman who’s accused of posting the Deadpool script online.

Darren Aronofsky has finally signed on the dotted lined and made a formal announcement regarding his next directing gig. Over the past month, we’ve pretty much known that the Black Swan helmer was set to take over where Gavin Hood left off (shudder) in Fox’s Wolverine franchise. According to THR, not only will he direct the sequel which is entitled, The Wolverine, but he’ll also produce other projects for the studio over the next two years.

Either studios don’t pay attention to their competitor’s upcoming slates or Fox and Disney just don’t give a damn. The two powerhouses are both producing adaptations of the Jules Verne classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with David Fincher and Wanted’s Timur Bekmambetov in talks to direct. Does anyone else see a problem with this?

When we heard about 20th Century Fox’s plan to produce a fifth film in the Die Hard series we were beyond skeptical. The last sequel, Live Free or Die Hard received mixed reviews and it was rated PG-13! How can you have Die Hard without balls to the wall action and F-bombs? According to THR, there’s been some movement on the next film and the studio has hired a screenwriter to tackle the new story. His name is Skip Woods and he’s the same guy who wrote the screenplay for X-Men Origins: Wolverine (face palms).

Last week we learned that Kick-Ass‘ Matthew Vaughn was up to direct the comic spin-off, X-Men: First Class. Initially 20th Century Fox and the director were said to be in “talks” but now his involvement has been confirmed and a release date has been set for the film. Vaughn and previous X-Men helmer Bryan Singer will join forces to bring some respectability back to the series.
