The new trailer for Hulu’s new series, The First has been released. The new drama tells of a group of astronauts on their way to becoming the first inhabitants of the planet Mars. Created by Beau Willimon, The First seems to have its emphasis on how the expedition taking the toll on the families of the crews. To be honest, that premise is a justified subject matter to tackle. A trip to Mars is not like going to the moon or visiting the ISS, all of which are two-way expedition that lasts for anywhere from two weeks to some months.
A trip to Mars could last more than that. And in this case, the astronauts seek to become first Martian, which could imply that the trip is essentially one-way ticket only. There are also risks of long-distance space mission. Everything is of high stake as humanity makes its first attempt to colonize another planet to call home. However, the series (depicted through its trailer) is short on the sense of discovery and exhilaration. The excitement of a promise for a new home has been set aside and instead the focus shifts toward tear-jerking drama that the series is all about.
The First stars Sean Penn, Natascha McElhone, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Hannah Ware, Keiko Agena, Rey Lucas, James Ransone, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Brian Lee Franklin, and Oded Fehr. Creator Beau Willimon and showrunner Jordan Tappis assume the role of executive producer and produce the show for Westward Productions. The First will premiere on Hulu on September 14th, 2018 with all episodes being offered at once. The story is set in a near future. McElhone stars as Laz Ingram, a visionary aerospace magnate who directs all crew members on their mission to Mars and deals with personal sacrifice needed to make humanity’s greatest feat a reality.
