Keep Your Insults Off The Shuttles At Sundance

sundance film festival 23 1 10 kc Keep Your Insults Off The Shuttles At Sundance

The first night of Sundance was a bit rough. Aside from missing out on Howl AND the Spike Jonze Series of Dramatic Shorts which I really wanted to see, I watched a screener of another film and learned an extremely valuable lesson while on the shuttle ride home — keep your mouth shut if you don’t like a movie.

A few of us who didn’t get into any of the opening night films sat down with some screeners so we could at least watch something from the festival. We decided to view Daddy Longlegs, a film that sounded like it had quite a bit of promise. About 30 minutes into it, it was hard not to yell at the screen because of the ridiculousness taking place in front of us…

dvd releases09 6 22 New DVD Releases: The Pink Panther 2, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Waltz with Bashir

A surprising almost-hit and pair of not too surprising flops hit DVD this week as Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Pink Panther 2 and Inhkeart roll onto disc. Luckily there is one film of quality being released, Waltz With Bashir.

Unfortunately, that’s about it for home theater lovers this week except for a pair of art films and couple TV series.  At least we still have the three worst DVDs of the week for some unintentional comedy potential.

Time for the 80′s: Jason Vorhees style!

fridaythe13th09 6 18 Time for the 80s: Jason Vorhees style!

As a die-hard horror fan, I feel I have the right to say that Friday the 13th has never been a particularly intellectual series.  It is has never made chronological sense, nor tried to explain how Jason mysteriously transformed from a drowning 10-year-old boy into a hulking, deformed indestructible killer. But that’s okay. Audiences (for some reason) accept this and enjoy the series for what it is – cheap thrills, kills, and boobies. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy these things as much as the next gore hound. But after number 5, I tune out. Read on, dear reader, and find out why…

Time for the 80′s: It’s Midnight Madness!!

Friday, June 12, 2009 2:00PM - By

midnightmadness09 6 12 Time for the 80s: Its Midnight Madness!!

It is my humble opinion that every film should open with hot chicks named Candy and Sunshine in booty shorts on roller skates. Luckily for me, Midnight Madness does just that! This little seen 1980  release is truly joyous and a rousing good time.  After all, it’s a film about an all night scavenger hunt! How can that concept not be fun?

The honeys on roller skates are the playthings of uber nerd Leon, the “game master” behind his brainchild scavenger hunt, the great all nighter. After a year of planning and watching, he has carefully selected 5 teams to compete in this hunt to end all hunts. The teams have from sundown to sunup to follow clues to a final location, where the winner will be announced.

The Top Ten Pirated Movies: Are You Fired Up?

toptenpiratedmovieskj09 05 22 The Top Ten Pirated Movies: Are You Fired Up?

Every week, TorrentFreak lists the top ten pirated movies on BitTorrent. I am always curious to see what other people are watching. Between ticket prices and my frugality, I am not too keen on spending my money on a possibly bad movie. Sometimes, I would much rather wait for it to be released on DVD and Netflix that puppy. By looking at this list, I can see why they may pirate the movie, it is just not worth the time to actually go out and rent it.

Here are the top ten pirated movies for May 22…

ghostsofgfpast09 5 12 Extra Extra: Great Movies that Bombed, Bloopers, and More

There are just some things that I feel you NEED to see. Check them out…

I have to tell you. I refused to see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. As soon as I saw the trailer I knew that it was going to be everything that I hate. Sexist in an “I’m not sexist” kind of way, no plot, no story, and no substance. Well it turns out I was right and I’m not the only one who thinks so. Check out this article on why we need to stop supporting movies like this. [Cinematical]

It’s rare that you ever go to a film and say “this was a lot better than I expected it to be.” But everyone once in a while it does happen! Here are the Top 10 hilarious movies that tanked at the box office. [unrealitymag]

And just because it’s awesome… a video of bloopers from Cannonball Run…
