With less than four months to go until the launch of the The Avengers, we’re getting all sorts of stories, pictures and rumors about the film, which has a May 4 release date. Of late, Empire Magazine has had four character-specific covers, there’s hints at what the film’s Hulk might look like, and a completely baseless rumor about a possible Marvel franchise cross-over. Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows is hitting theaters May 11, which means we should be seeing a trailer here any day now. For the time being there’s a new still of Johnny Depp in the film, and it suggests that his character is in line with many Burton protagonists of the past. It’s not that surprising that we’re going to get a full year of hype for Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. There are few films with as much anticipation around them, and few films that can be counted on to make over $300 Million at the box office (think how much it might make if it’s actually good?) The latest is a picture of Martin Freeman‘s Bilbo Baggins and a familiar sword.
This week Paramount acquired the rights to turn the famous Montreal-based circus Cirque du Soleil into a 3D movie… and thankfully, James Cameron, who is a master of the technology, has come aboard as producer. Also in the news this week is Kevin Smith: the indie director will be heading back to the big screen forone night, just to answer our questions. Yep, that’s Daniel Craig, and Empire is reporting that this is the first official picture of James Bond in Skyfall, the 23rd film in the franchise. The film is due out November 9 later this year, and shooting is underway, so there’s plenty of time to speculate what madness Bond gets into in this adventure. The film is being directed by Sam Mendes and also stars Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, and Javier Bardem.

We’re at the end of the first week of 2012 and already there’s news about remakes, TV show premieres, and even a first look into a much anticipated action movie. The Amazing Spider-Man poses a simple question: Are you willing to be reintroduced to a character you haven’t forgotten? Director Marc Webb has recast Peter Parker with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, with Rhys Ifans as the villainous Lizard. Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is and isn’t a sequel/prequel to his 1979 film Alien. And though it may not feature Alien creatures as we know them from the previous installments, from the latest images to come from the film it’s going to have the same look and feel that’s for sure.
