Nothing is sacred. Next we’re going to hear that they’re remaking Gone with the Wind with vampires and pirates. In fact I might prefer that to what is actually happening. According the to BloodyDisgusting website, the Weinstein Brothers are remaking writer/director John Landis’ AnAmerican Werewolf in London (please hold all complaints until you hear more).
Finally, Duncan Jones is starting to get some recognition for his amazing film Moonstarring Sam Rockwell! His low-budget masterpiece just won the Michael Powell Award for best new British feature at the Edinburgh Film Festival this past weekend. The panel was not a easy one to win over, Joe Wright and Frank Langella were two of the five panelists who voted for the film.
Also, 18 year-old Katie Jarvis who one big at Cannes Film Festival for role in Fish Tank, also received praise from Edinburgh. She took home the honor Best Performance for her role in the film. According to Empire she said: “This has been an amazing year for me in more ways than one,” she enthused. “I was lucky enough to spend my 18th birthday in Edinburgh last week, where Fish Tank was shown, and this is such a great present.”
I know, I know. MORE vampires, but I have to say, Daybreakers looks pretty damn cool (check out the poster). The film is by writer/director team Michael Spierig and Peter Spierigstars who are used to working with the this type of film as the also work and directed Undead. The film stars Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Isabel Lucas, Michael Dorman and Sam Neill.
Much like may of the more interesting takes on vampires, this film deals with what it would be like if the vampires existed in everyday life. This film takes the perspective of what if humans were no longer considered a population but a resource to vampires, and all that was left was a civilization of vampires who run the world much like how we run it today. Just like us, they have depleted their only life source and have to find an answer before it’s too late.
Surprise, surprise, the Transformerssequel came in at number one… and not just number one of the weekend, but number one of all time. The film made a measly $201 million over the weekend in the US, but include international sales, starting from 12:01am Wednesday morning, the film grossed a disgusting $387 million worldwide. It all just makes me sick.
Kathryn Bigelow’s (interview) new film The Hurt Lockerstarring Jeremy Renner (interview), Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty, with special appearances by Guy Pearce, Ralph Feinnes, David Morse, and Evangeline Lilly is a must see film about men who do one of the most dangerous job’s in the world.
This film has amazing performances, an unbelievable setting, and will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. It’s not just another war film, Bigelow has redefined the genre with this film.
By far one of the sweetest and most charming films to come out of the LA Film Festival is Nicholas Jasenovec’s film Paper Heart starring Michael Cera and the creator and co-writer of the film Charlyne Yi. The film is a mixture between a documentary that Charlene embarks on in order to find out what love is and a film about a love story. The film has interview with many different types of couples around the country and cardboard cut-out vignettes to show us how they fell in love. Overall, this film has a homemade and genuine quality that both intrigues and entertains.
The film has already won a Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award and been nominated for the grand Jury Prize at Sundance. After the screening at LAFF, Jasenovec and one of the shining interviewees of the film David from Atlanta, got up to answer some questions.
Know that you’ve all had a chance to see TransformersandTerminator, which one did you like better? And would you have preferred it if they would have just transformed into one movie and terminated two trips to the movie theater (so bad, I know).
Pegg and Frost have decided to take their mini-cameras with them and film some behind the scenes blogs for fans to enjoy. The first of which is an intro and then Joe Lo Truglio talks about the set “going green”
Enough with what it’s about, I’ll let Pegg and Frost introduce the series below…
It’s always the bloggers fault. So, you know all that talk about Quentin Tarantino having to cut his WWII epic Inglorious Basterds because HarveryWeinstein told him to? Apparently, it was all bullshit. Either that or Weinstein is now just spewing bullshit in his recent interview with GQ in order to promote his upcoming film. Either way, as of now (could change tomorrow) Weinstein is a huge supporter of the film, thinks there should be even more of it, and would love to see a sequel to the film.
So did he ask Tarantino to cut the film?
Those stories are all untrue. There’s no fucking way. Here, read my lips: That is nuts. Please don’t even write that, it’s insanity. There’s not even a question of that. Whatever you’re reading, it’s like some insane blogger… There’s no truth to any of this. He’s not gonna cut. What he’s doing is just reorganizing some scenes. I mean, the guy had six weeks to cut his movie [for Cannes]; most guys take six months. Most guys take a year.
