Looking at family films in recent years, there seems to be a rise in utilizing 3-D technology. According to a recent report by the AP, the rise is going to continue if Disney, Dreamworks, and 20th Century Fox have anything to to do with it.

3-D technology was at one time known as a staple of the 1950′s (other than a quick resurgence in the 1980s), yet after seeing films such as Journey to the Center of the Earth, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, and Fly Me to the Moon this year, it’s apparent something’s up.

Dreamworks Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg spoke recently at the 3-D Festival in Singapore, announcing the plans to make all movies in 3-D in five to seven years, believing 3-D glasses would become so necessary in this time that everyone would have a pair, making them “a fashion statement.”

The problem at this point is not enough theaters are equipped for showings of 3-D films, but Disney plans to subsidize theaters to make the conversion to digital, then to 3-D. With currently only 1,400 of the 30,000 screens 3-D ready at the present time, it could be a very lofty goal.

Until then, here’s what you can find in 3-D in the near future, if you’re lucky to have a theater equipped with 3-D near you. Bolt opening this coming weekend, Jonas Brothers’ “Burning Up” 3D Concert Movie and Monsters vs. Aliens opening next year, Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, and even portions of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will be shown in 3-D.

It would be nice to have the job security that Brett Ratner seems to feel he has. While the Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, and Rush Hour 3 director had been confirmed to direct the next Beverly Hills Cop film according to this earlier report, producer Avi Lerner broke the news that Ratner had been in final negotiations to direct a remake of Conan the Barbarian as well.

According to the L.A. Times, Lerner was quite excited about signing Ratner, to the point of mentioning that when Ratner was younger, he “even wrote a story about Conan when he was 10 years old.” He also said he liked Ratner’s “childlike enthusiasm” for the project.

The “childlike enthusiasm” seems to have turned to adult rage as once Ratner was contacted, he called the reports of him directing Conan “totally premature.” He seemed to no want to mess up his deal with Paramount to direct the next Beverly Hills Cop film, saying he wanted to be clear, “I am not doing Conan now,” but he seemed to leave it open to possibly taking it on in the near future, after Beverly Hills Cop gets the official green light.

Last week, the always outspoken Tim Robins complained publicly about not being able to vote, as previously reported. His polling place had no record of him as a voter, causing him to search out a judge for the proof of his eligibility.

New information has now surfaced, this time from a more reputable source than TMZ. The New York Times has stated that the elections board is calling all of Robbins’ voting difficulties his own fault.

According The NY Times, Robbins re-registered to vote with a slightly different name and a totally different address in 2004, causing his original name and address to be removed from the books and a change in polling place for him. Robbins wanted us to believe that people were not being allowed to vote in this very important election, but according to this, Robbins hasn’t voted as often as he’d like us to believe.

Robbins, of course, is disputing this information, and is getting the support of election officials at his original polling place. Rest assured, we haven’t heard the last of this.
