Today at Comic-Con, during Disney’s panel, a surprise clip of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow was shown from the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I would imagine the clip was shown of Depp in his Sparrow costume. The clip included a greeting from Depp.

The film will be directed by Rob Marshall and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film has some new cast additions, including Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane. The latest installment is about the colorful Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as he encounters a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz) whilst on an unexpected journey to the illustrious Fountain of Youth. The woman forces him aboard the ship helmed by Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

The latest Pirates movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is due to come out over Memorial Day weekend 2011. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will be brought to you in Disney 3D. To learn more about the film, visit the website.

The Comic-Con panel for the new action film, The Expendables, has to be, by far, the beefiest and the manliest panel of all time. The director, writer and star, Sylvester Stallone, will be joined by a few members of the cast including Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews. The panel will be moderated by Harry Knowles. I’m fairly sure that somewhere in the panel they will talk about breaking necks and just beating the living daylights out of each other.

Now it’s time for it to start! We will have a play-by-play of all the highlights from the panel…

5:05pm-Harry Knowles starts moderating:
“Aren’t you hungry for a movie that makes you want to hit the gym?”

5:07pm-Knowles:
“I’ll be representing estrogen up here tonight”

5:09pm-Terry Crews walks on stage, rips his shirt off, climbs up on the table and does dueling banjos with his pecs.

5:10pm-Knowles: “When I did a set visit in New Orleans, I saw a forearm that scared the shit out of me. That forearm belonged to Randy Couture.”

5:14pm-Stallone walks out, blue sunglasses on, Travolta Pulp Fiction white shirt and black tie, as the crowd chants “Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!”

5:19pm-Crews on getting cast: “[Stallone] had me at hello. This is the manliest movie ever made.”

5:22pm-Bruce Willis makes a super short special appearance, walking out to hug Stallone following his RED panel and everyone goes nuts.

5:23pm-Sly: “There’s never gonna be another Bruce Willis”

5:23pm-Knowles to the audience: “How fucking awesome is this?!?!”

5:24pm-Willis: “This film is huge. It’s really huge.”

5:25pm-Sly: “If Arnold shows up, don’t let him in. I’ve had it with him. He’s too good.” –and then Willis leaves.

5:29pm-Stallone talking about Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren’s fight scene:  “Talk about David versus Goliath”

5:34pm-Stallone tells the audience his neck was broken by Steve Austin while they were filming.

Sly: “It was my own fault”
Austin: “When the writer, director and star tells you to kick the shit out of him, you kick the shit out of him.”
Sly: “I always get hurt on my best movies. I didn’t get hurt on Rhinestone. I didn’t get hurt on Stop or My Mom Will Shoot. I get hurt and it’s a great movie”

5:40pm-Knowles introduces a clip from the movie. “I was told by people at Lionsgate that they were shocked, shocked!, that we could run this clip. It’s called “The Tunnel Fight.”

5:41pm-Machetes, broken bones, pure carnage, Crews draws the biggest cheers from the crowd as he mows down a mini army.

5:44pm-Knowles: “I’m a cream puff, look at me. When I was on that set…Jason Statham’s sitting there playing with knives showing me all the different ways he could kill me.”

5:46pm-Stallone on why they shot in Brazil: “You can shoot people and blow things up and they say “Thank you! Take a monkey home with you!” We couldn’t have pulled off what we did (somewhere else). We blew up huge plots of land. It was like, Everybody bring their hot dogs. We’re having a BBQ today. We’re gonna blow up this village.”

5:53pm-Stallone responding to an audience question about if there were over-the-top arm wrestling matches on set: “You know what? I hate that sport so much because I’m so bad at it. But now that you brought it up…” And then he pretends to arm wrestle Steve Austin. “Kidding, Steve. Humor.”

5:58pm-Stallone replying to what other people would’ve been in the movie: “I talked to Van Damme, I talked to Segal, I talked to Chuck Norris. There’s things like availability, or insanity, that makes things not work out.”

6:05pm-Stallone is asked if he prefers acting or directing: “It’s no comparison, directing. Because I’m a power freak. A total control whore.”

6:12pm- Stallone is asked what happens when you accidentally get hit by your co-star during a fight sequence: “Sometimes when that happens, you can’t wait for them to get to (the next time) so you can crack ‘em. I had that on Demolition Man. I had that on Death Race 2000 with David Carradine. But I couldn’t do anything because he was the star.”

6:22pm-Panel ends with a standing ovation

After sifting through countless comments both entertaining and disturbing, we’re ready to announce the winner of our Twilight: New Moon Special 2-Disc DVD giveaway! Scripped.com, a crowd source content development company and provider of a web-based screenwriting software, has announced they have merged with online performance writing provider and online community, Zhura.com. So what does this mean? It’s a good day to be a writer…

Zhura was founded in 2007 with the goal of creating performance writing tools. They have an online community with collaboration and social networking features that help writers. Scripped was founded in 2008 with the goal of making it easier for writers to create screenplays. The company created the software, Scripped Writer, a free, web-based program for screenwriters. The software is similar to that of a word-processing software, but also automatically formats and catalogs the content to meet industry standards. The website hopes to create a community of writers and provide the necessary tools to give support to writers to successfully complete projects.

Scripped has also landed from new investment, by private angel investors, worth $250,000. With the new investment and merger, Scripped plans to move into a new location that is part of the technology incubator, I/O Ventures.

What do you think of the merger?

The full trailer for the new Australian film, Animal Kingdom: A Crime Story, has been released in its native country and is quickly trickling over. The U.S. trailer should be released sometime in the near future. Until then, this trailer should peak your interest in seeing the film. The film is the directorial debut from, David Michôd, starring James Frencheville, Guy Pearce, Joel Edgerton, Luke Ford, and Jacki Weaver.

The trailer looks promising. The music and the overall look is beautiful and something about it was refreshingly different from many of the other films hitting theaters. The plot of the movie isn’t spelled out for you in the trailer, but one still gets a sense of intensity of the film. That coupled with the review we have the film from this year’s Sundance, which stated “Animal Kingdom is a truly great film.  Wrenching and tragic, this film takes the crime drama away from the crime itself and into the heart of the dynamics of families,” makes this kind of a must see…

Official synopsis:

Pope Cody (Mendelsohn), an armed robber on the run from a gang of renegade detectives, is in hiding, surrounded by his roughneck friends and family. Soon, Pope’s nephew, Joshua “J” Cody (Frecheville), arrives and moves in with his hitherto-estranged relatives. When tensions between the family and the police reach a bloody peak, “J” finds himself at the center of a cold-blooded revenge plot that turns the family upside down.

Animal Kingdom has yet to receive a release date for the U.S. It will come out in Australia on June 3, 2010.

Two new posters have been released for the final installment of the Shrek franchise, Shrek Forever After. The film features regulars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, and Eddie Murphy, with the addition of Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin, Larry King, Regis Philbin, and Jane Lynch. One poster shows our favorite green ogre in a compromising position, while the other has Rumpelstiltskin surrounded by bitches, well sort of. See for yourself…

Normally, posters for films like this don’t get a rise out of me, but these have really struck a chord. Does the fact that the marketing team use taglines that rhyme with swear words seem a little wrong to you? This is a kids movie, and even though Shrek is known for treading the fine line of innuendo these posters may have gone too far.

“Where my Witches At?” is the one that really gets under my skin. I am by no means a prude, in fact I swear like a sailor, but I don’t think this is the right message to send to children. When you read that your mind automatically thinks of the word ‘Bitches.’ It’s in our corrupt DNA. This isn’t a cry for DreamWorks to scrap the posters and start anew but instead a side note asking them to remember who their demographic is.

It’s the day you’ve all been waiting for, it’s time to announce the winner of the Greenberg soundtrack and iPod Shuffle giveaway! Greenberg is the latest film directed by Noah Baumbach and stars Ben Stiller, Rhys Ifans, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The soundtrack has songs by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, among other artists, and it’s filled with plenty of acclaimed tunes. Normally we do a video of the day, but today was a little bit harder. Unreality Magazine found 15 videos with the cast of The Office before they became the lovable characters at Dunder Mifflin. There are definitely a few gems on this one. The greatest has to be Steve Carell back in the day on The Daily Show with Steven Colbert. They just work so well together. Also, who knew Andy could play the banjo so well? This one is a little bit off in left field. During ScreenCrave’s recent visit to this year’s ShoWest, there was a test test of all the weird creations from Coca-Cola. You can mix anything you want together! Vanilla, Coco-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Lime, Root Beer, anything! It was a little kid’s dream. It reminds me of the days where I would mix all the flavors of soda together.
