pirates09 6 13 Behind the Scenes: Ve the CGI Queen

The magic of Hollywood partially comes from the Magic Wand, or makeup brush, held in the hands of Ms. Ve Neill. What the imagination dreams, can be brought to life by this woman who needs no “bibbidy bobiddy boo” o r “Abracadabra” to accomplish what some consider impossible. Revered by those such as Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg and whose work is imitated by thousands around the globe, Ve has set a standard in makeup artistry that has deemed her the nickname “CGI Queen” in the film industry because her work can be matched only by CGI and special effects.

Joaquin Phoenix Bombs Letterman

Thursday, February 12, 2009 8:36AM - By Guest Writer

This is one of those moments that make staying up late to watch the frequently mind numbing Letterman completely worthwhile. Watch as Joaquin Phoenix mumbles, grumbles and gets angry in what is likely one of the most awkward and delightfully uncomfortable interviews to date. I wouldn’t want to talk to Letterman either and this interview was definitely forced. Letterman’s comment after Phoenix suggest performing on the show after his rap career gets going is the point when it’s quite apparent Letterman wants to be doing the interview as much as Phoenix.

I want to side with Phoenix, although after seeing the video of his new music career, he’s making it a little tricky to be on his side. Although, who the hell signed this guy up for Letterman? He’s obviously going through something and doesn’t need more screen time doing shitty interviews.

What do you think? Should Phoenix have been a more delightful guest for the almost cruely cold Letterman? Let us know!

Gonzo the Film: Alex Gibney an Interview From the Edge

gonzo08 12 18 Gonzo the Film: Alex Gibney an Interview From the Edge

He was a tortured soul with an energy that was phenomenal. Hunter Thompson, formed and shaped by the most controversial generation that the United States ever had, was the man that helped to change writing and journalism as it is known today. He was known for his flamboyant writing style, Gonzo Journalism, which blurred the distinction between writer and subject. He was a visionary and an “in your face” opinionated force to be dealt with. Many could not comprehend his perception on politics and life in general.

The Truth Behind the Mutiny of Captain Jack Sparrow…

pirate brandom08 12 18 The Truth Behind the Mutiny of Captain Jack Sparrow...

Treason on the high seas? Of course, in pirate lingo this is called Mutiny! The news has been loaded this week with Disneyland’s decision to remove the character, Captain Jack Sparrow from the park. So what is the true story behind Disney’s mutiny of everyone’s favorite Captain? Misinformation and misquotes have lead to pure speculation of why Jack would be forced to leave his home at the happiest place on earth. The truth of course is not as colorful as the stories of excited women screaming and loosing control over Sparrow at the park, although swooning is always appropriate where Jack is concerned.

YES MAN TRAILER: Flash Back to the Past!

yesmanme08 11 05 YES MAN TRAILER: Flash Back to the Past!

Ummm…are we back in 90’s? This looks like it should have come out right after Ace Ventura. Looks funny and… but didn’t Carrey move on from this? Or did The Number 23 really do that much harm? I think my problem is this film just looks like a comedy we’ve seen. With the new generation of Apatow comedies, I think people are starting to want something a little different. Although personally I love Jim Carrey (I can quote almost every single line from Ace Ventura), at this point I just wish I could see him in more films like Eternal Sunshine where we acts instead of over acting.

Here is the new trailer from the film Yes,Man out in theaters December 19th, 2008.

What do you think? Fun Jim Carrey romp? Or dated comedy? Check it out below…

YouTube Partnership Program: The Easiest Money You’ll Ever Make

youtube logo2 YouTube Partnership Program: The Easiest Money You’ll Ever Make

There is a video uploaded on YouTube that, contrary to the title which suggests I’m in store for “extreme funny,” turns out to be five minutes and fifty-seven seconds of the lamest footage I’ve ever seen. Kitti1 and I apparently have very different views of what constitutes as funny, because in my book two magicians dressed in parkas and Adidas track pants doing the routine I preformed for my dolls in 2nd grade does not equal funny. Luckily, what I think is irrelevant because I just spent five minutes and fifty-seven seconds waiting to laugh and, more importantly, upping this video’s views from 27,399,672 to 27,399,673. This is why Kitti1can shake my hateration off; he (or she) is sitting on a goldmine, and I am not.

Review: Hounddog is for the Dogs

Thursday, September 25, 2008 10:41AM - By Guest Writer

hounddog08 09 25 Review: Hounddog is for the DogsLast week, a new film by Deborah Kampmeier, hit theaters. “Hounddog” is a story about a young girl finding sanctuary within music – or at least that’s what the story should have been about. I’ll admit it – I am a sucker for cutesy, heartfelt movies with Southern accents. Plus this one had an amazing cast including Dakota Fanning, Robin Wright Penn, David Morse, Piper Laurie and many more. So when I saw the trailer for “Hounddogs” I was happy to spend my sunny afternoon in a dark theatre. I was ready to walk out of the theatre with that warm feeling and a slight twang in my speech.

But by the end, I wanted Dakota Fanning to get bitten by the snakes that she has some inexplicable cosmic connection with throughout the film. And I never want to hear the song “Hounddog” again. This movie is not “My Girl” and it’s not “Forrest Gump”, but it kind of wants to be both and fails.

Movie Industry News: Festival Season Is A Celebration Of Disappoinment

Monday, September 8, 2008 4:00PM - By Guest Writer

2426190661 7d60925e9d Movie Industry News: Festival Season Is A Celebration Of DisappoinmentI personally think it’s way too early for Oscar talk and don’t care too much about the International FIlm Festivals (and won’t until someone decides to send me to Venice to cover one), but that’s what going on this week.  There’s nothing worth seeing at the movies (Bangkok Dangerous??) and fall TV hasn’t even started yet.  Time to go back to bed.

  • In this week’s Gold Derby blog at latimes.com, Tom O’Neill confronts the question: could Peter O’Toole beat out Heath Ledger for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar?  Then he goes on to describe O’Toole’s latest vehicle, Dean Spanley that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, as “lollipop sweet” and “a nice Disney or Hallmark pic.”  The whole (imagined) conflict is at the core of how basically unimportant and random the Oscars are.  How could Ledger’s Joker even be in the same category as a curmudgeonly but sweet grandpa?  The question I want to confront is: How do I get a cushy and completely unnecessary job like Tom O’Neill?
