Netflix is bound to get a workout this week as no fewer than eleven feature films are hitting DVD shelves. That’s right, eleven. And the list is stacked with blockbusters like the second Twilight film, New Moon and The Princess and the Frog leading the way. There’s stuff for indie fans as well including Pedro Almodovar’s latest and an adaptation of the David Foster Wallace story. All that, plus one of the best shows on television!

The early-year string of romantic comedies gets a major upgrade this week as the charming She’s Out of My League rolls into theaters. With its mix of great gags and sparkling chemistry throughout the entire cast, this movie separates itself from the usual rom-com fare, but not too far.

Well, the Oscars are over, but never fear because two brand new Oscar worthy DVDs are hitting shelves today! Hurray, because they include one of the night’s big winners, Precious (Adapted Screenplay and Supporting Actress), and its biggest loser, Up In The Air (6 major nominations and no wins). But it’s not all about prestige pictures this week. There’s also the bottom of the barrel to scrape with a group spearheaded by Old Dogs.

It’s come down to this. Time to put my money where my mouth is. Time to face the music. Time to… write an introduction wrought with cliches. Yes, it’s prediction time again – and this the big one: Predicting the Oscar Winner. Yesterday we posted who SHOULD win, today it’s who WILL win.
While this isn’t nearly as fun as picking the nominees (with only five slots and all) it’s still a bit of a challenge. Well, unless you count the acting races which have been pretty much closed since the nominees were first announced. But who cares about those? This is the closest Best Picture race we’ve seen since 1991 when JFK and Silence of the Lambs were neck-and-neck. Except this year, we’re neck-and-neck-and-neck.

The Oscar Power Rankings for the past few months has been nothing but cold analysis: A completely objective look at the state of the race and the height of the buzz.
Now it’s time to get subjective. Before we get to the final analytical predictions of who will ultimately take home gold, it is first time to actually take a critical look at the films, performances and screenplays up for the big prizes this year, and analyze who actually deserves to take home the statuette.
With that, here is the ranking of who should win an Oscar on Sunday night…

Plenty of high-profile movies will be hitting DVD shelves this week, led by blockbuster 2012 and the pretend blockbuster Where The Wild Things Are. It’s an even bigger haul for Japanese animation fans as Hayao Miyazaki has four films set for release including his latest Ponyo.

Kevin Smith may have trouble squeezing into an airplane seat, but he’s got no problem filling the director’s chair for his latest film, Cop Out. The film puts an R-rated comedic spin on the buddy cop genre with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan starring as veteran NYPD officers attempting to track down some stolen baseball cards. Unfortunately, Smith was able to derive more entertainment from his recent Southwest-bashing tweets than he was from this feature film.

If you’re looking for movies that should have gotten big time Oscar nominations but failed to earn their deserved recognition, then this is the DVD Release week for you.
Yep, there are plenty of big time snubs this week. If Best Actor is your game then Robert De Niro’s performance in Everybody’s Fine or Matt Damon’s sterling work in The Informant! is ready to take home. If you prefer a Best Documentary Feature snub, then you can check out The September Issue.
Of course, it’s not all award-winning (or should’ve been award-winning) releases this week, as there is plenty of lowbrow stuff available too. Headed by those fake-tanned citizens of The Jersey Shore.

It’s Love Actually, American Style as Garry Marshall assembles a rom-com dream team for his hyperlink take on Valentine’s Day. The film could have given us stories as rich and diverse as a heart-shaped box of chocolates. Instead, it’s more like a bag of Hershey Kisses – Not much variety, but sweet enough to get the job done.
