Nicholas Cage is a great actor, right? Well, let’s just start by admitting that he’s a successful actor: he’s in blockbuster summer hits that gross well over 100 million dollars, he won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Leaving Las Vegas. He’s also a member of the dynastic Coppola family. Yet, in spite all of his accomplishments he regularly delivers sub-par performances in sub-par roles, typically in sub-par movies. At this point in his career he can afford to skip a few roles, yet his marriage to the King of Pop’s ex-wife may show how poor his decision making skills are. The following are ten of the worst films by Cage, as well as a few choice roles that makes all of us believe that a quality actor may still be lurking around in there somewhere.
We are about to head out to the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s annual award show in Santa Monica; “The Critic’s Choice Awards”. I’ll be doing my best to keep you updated throughout the evening via our twitter account http://twitter.com/screencrave . I have no idea if we are allowed to cover the event in this way so if communication suddenly ceases it’s probably due to me being thrown out or captured behind enemy lines.
Wish me luck and don’t forget to RT to help spread the word.
I’m still hoping a hybrid robot ninja will randomly appear half way through the movie and kill everyone who isn’t in the RSC, but for everyone who doesn’t have these cravings I am sure you will find the new trailer as exciting as it is predictable. Imagine Danny Boyle directing Harry Potter…?
Congratulations to Bryan Cranston, for winning at Emmy last night for his leading role in Breaking Bad. Not long ago we sat down with the humorous and recently dark Bryan Cranston to talk about his latest show Breaking Bad, his 7 season run as Hal on Malcolm in the Middle, his experiences with directing and much more.
His feature film credits include “Little Miss Sunshine”, “Seeing Other People,” “That Thing You Do”, “Clean Slate”, “Kissing Miranda”, “Dead Space”, “Private Offerings”, “Terror Tract”, to name but a few. Cranston is currently filming “Love Ranch” based on real events, it is a drama centered on a married couple that open the first legal brothel in Nevada. Cranston plays James Pettis, a corrupt senator that butts head with Joe Pesci who plays the brothel owner alongside Helen Mirren as the madam.
So without further ado! We give you Bryan Cranston.
Were you consciously looking for a dramatic role after your character Hal in Malcolm in the Middle?
I was looking for either something comedic that was different or dramatic yes. I was offered similar characters to Hal and would turn them down. That would just be death to my career. I wanted to do other things, but I honestly couldn’t have anticipated another extremely well written show and a great, well defined character, as Hal on Malcolm in the Middle.
Jackie Chan is in Los Angeles promoting his latest movie, Forbidden Kingdom, which will be released nationwide on the 18th of April. For the first time ever, Jackie Chan and Jet Li can be seen on screen together in this action adventure tale of a teenage boy traveling back in time to ancient China to learn Kung-Fu from Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) and the silent Monk (Jet Li).
Forbidden Kingdom and it’s writer John Fusco, clearly have a genuine admiration for the history of the cinema of martial arts, Kung Fu and Chinese folk lore. The pacing seemed disjointed and lethargic at times overly relying on self conscious high end production values, BUT (and it is a big but) it does have Jet Li and Jackie Chan busting heads, which buys a lot of leeway with any fight fan.
