Robert Rodriguez, writer, director, editor, producer, composer, production designer, visual effects artist, chef, actor, cinematographer and TV mogul, will have a new movie this summer in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, which is a sequel to one of his most artistically successful films. It’s got a great cast, and the latest trailer reveals much about the plot.

It looks like a bunch of characters new and old team up to take on Ava Lord (Eva Green) and Senator Roark (Powers Booth), who control the city. On the side of right include Jessica Alba (who’s haunted by the ghost of Bruce Willis), Mickey Rourke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, Rosario Dawson, and more. As that list and the trailer suggests, the movie is chocked full of talented performers. Check it out:

It’s nice this offers a ton of new footage as until now we’ve only gotten variations on the first teaser trailer. The latest trailer suggests a team-up movie (which equals awesome), the question is if the stylized nature of the piece will feel like old hat. The first film made an impression with its striking mixture of black and white with strong primary colors sprinkled throughout. But that was nearly ten years ago and Frank Miller — who co-directed this, the original and directed The Spirit (which co-opted this look) — may have run this visual trick into the ground. The premise sounds great; who doesn’t like a team-up movie? But we’re wary of the title, if only just a little. Sin City 2 hits theaters August 22.
