The November Man

Post-James Bond, it feels like Pierce Brosnan hasn’t found that great role that helps us forget his past as a television star and one-time 007. But as someone who’s been dealing in action for what seems like thirty years, perhaps he can compete with Liam Neeson for the world’s favorite grizzled butt-kicker. The latest trailer for The November Man suggests he might be able to at least come in second place.

November Man, not to be confused with the Guns and Roses song “November Rain,” features Brosnan as someone who has a particular set of skills which he hasn’t used in a while, but when someone he loves turns up dead he’s got revenge on the brain. As scored to what seems to be a “spooky” cover version of The Fugees’ “Ready or Not,” it looks like it’s going to be a slightly downbeat but explosive thriller. Here’s that trailer:

Here’s how my brain works: Seeing Brosnan performing alongside Olga Kurylenko reminds me that Kurylenko also appeared against Daniel Craig‘s Bond in Quantum of Solace, and as a Russian Bond girl, Kurylenko reminds of the Brosnan Bond’s Goldeneye, which starred Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp, while it is Janssen who plays Liam Neeson’s ex-wife in the Taken series (which then makes us think of the Key and Peele sketch). The November Man – surprisingly — opens August 27.

Did you see the Liam Neesons movie with those wolves?
