Somehow, a dart was thrown by producer Neal Moritz, and, out of the several possible action films made in 1980 and 1990s, that dart managed to hit a target marked “Cliffhanger.” That’s about the only explanation we can come up with for why the Moritz is pushing for a remake for the 1993 Sylvester Stallone film, also known as “that one Stallone movie in the mountains.”
Mortiz has hired writer Joe Gazzam to pen the script based on his pitch, according to /Film. While remakes are nothing new, the fact that Cliffhanger—a ridiculous but relatively entertaining ‘90s actioner, sure, but one with no real franchise or name appeal—is getting a remake serves as a fairly solid indicator that literally every single film that ever made over $100 million at the box office is going to get a modern reboot, remake, sequel, prequel, or some combination of the four.
No word yet on who will potentially star or direct.
