One of the most reliable constants in the X-Men film franchise has been Patrick Stewart’s portrayal of Professor Charles Xavier—intelligent, honorable, noble, kindhearted Professor X. He even help to make X-Men: The Last Stand bearable (well, parts of it, anyway). And so it came as no surprised that when Fox decided to meld its X-Men: First Class prequel universe with the preexisting original X-Men trilogy continuity with X-Men: Days of Future Past, Stewart’s Xavier would act as a major thematic fulcrum.
It would also come as not much of a surprise that one of the main characters of the X-Men universe, like Xavier, would appear in the Days of Future Past sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse. It’s the equivalent of saying, oh yeah, by the way, Sam Jackson will be in the next Marvel movie. But hey, it’s COMIC BOOK MOVIE CASTING NEWS, which means we are contractually obligated to cover it down to the slightest minutiae.
When recently asked if he would return for X-Men: Apocalypse, Stewart had this to say:
“I don’t see why not…That is one of the blessings about fantasy and science fiction. You’re never really dead. I would love to come back and do some more…There might be something else. A little bird has whispered that there might be something X-Men-related.”
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for a May 23, 2014 release date. X-Men: Apocalypse is set to drop on May 27, 2016.
