Michael Bay has doubled down on TV spots tonight, though it’s no surprise as both of these first TV spots for ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered during the MTV Movie Awards. Summer is coming, and these two are two of the most hyped films of the year, especially for those who grew up in the 1980′s.
Up first is the Transformers 4 TV spot. Considering there was supposedly word of a rethinking of how to handle this franchise, there’s a lot of familiar elements. There’s more outer space (which is cool), but also Optimus Prime gets his butt kicked in this thirty second trailer, while the American government has an adversarial relationship with the bots, which is odd. Mark Wahlberg stars, but more time is spent on the cars. Here’s that TV spot:
And here’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spot, which features footage of Splinter:
It looks like there will be a comic tone to the TMNT movie, but also serious action, and it also sounds like whoever gives the narration is neither Tony Shalhoub or Johnny Knoxville, who were recently hired to voice Splinter and Leonardo respectively. It’s hard to get a read on the film as it seems more comfortable selling spectacle for the moment. Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters June 27, while TMNT hits August 8.
Are you excited for both of these films?
