Star Wars: Episode 7 is scheduled to start shooting in about six weeks, and we’ve been anxiously awaiting who will be playing the new Jedi and Sith since the project was announced all of a year and a half ago (seriously, it’s been forever at this point). The latest news from Disney Chief Alan Horn is that shooting has commenced, but there’s a few last pieces of the puzzle waiting to fall into place.
And those pieces? Casting. Though the script by Lawrence Kasdan and J.J. Abrams is now finished, it’s all about getting the (final?) cast members locked. We’ve been hearing rumors for a long time now, from Benedict Cumberbatch to Adam Driver, but no one is officially confirmed, including original cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and/or Harrison Ford, all of whom might be in the sequel. Alan Horn spoke about it this weekend, and here is the video:
With Jesse Plemons recently cast in another movie, we can only guess who’s not in the film (for instance, we’re pretty sure Seth Rogen won’t be in it). But it’s understandable that the casting would be the hardest part. Not only will many have to sign on for a three picture deal (at least), but then there’s the pressure of being involved in one of the most anticipated franchises in film history, and at this point we expect the announcement for the new stars of Star Wars won’t come until days before shooting. Which means some actors are keeping the biggest secret of their lives. Star Wars: Episode 7 is scheduled to hit theaters December 18, 2015.
Who would you most like to see show up in the Star Wars universe?
