Chiwetel Ejiofor has already proven his mettle when it comes to villainy—the Academy Award nominated actor (for the recent 12 Years a Slave) was excellent as the coldly monstrous assassin in Joss Whedon’s Serenity. And he may soon get the chance to prove himself again, as the actor is reportedly the main contender to play the latest Bond villain in the as-yet unnamed Bond 24.
According to The Wrap, Ejiofor’s representation, Sony, and MGM have all declined to comment, but rumor has it that the actor is “being eyed for the coveted role and is widely presumed to be the frontrunner amongst the other actors up for consideration,” despite no formal offer or official talks going down as of yet.
And while Ejiofor’s acting style may seem a little cool and distant for a franchise that involves a film called Octopussy, the Daniel Craig-era Bond villains have all been marked by a somewhat more subdued tone and high acting pedigree—the last three being Mads Mikkelson, Mathieu Amalric, and Javier Bardem (ok, Bardem was a little over the top, but it worked).
