After months of fearing that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be changed into middle-aged aliens (or something like that) in their new, rebooted film (titled—you guessed it—Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), we can now assure you that isn’t the case. Nope, they’re just six-foot tall sentient bipedal turtles who are both teenage and mutated, as well as ninjas. All is right in the world.
Though some hardcore fans might get iffy on the origin story (in the film, it appears that Shredder worked with April O’Neil’s father to create the turtles, because when attempting to create an army of mutant super-soldiers, everyone’s first thought is “what if we used turtles instead of humans?”), it’s interesting to see such wacky characters presented in a more or less “modern and gritty” context.
But hey, it doesn’t take itself too seriously. After all, it’s a bunch of damn ninja turtles fighting a guy named Shredder and his army that calls itself the Foot Clan:
Directed by Jonathan Liebsman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-stars Megan Fox, William Fichtner, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, Will Arnett, and Whoopi Goldberg. The film is set for an August 8 release.
