We’ve known for some time that Sony is chomping at the bit for something close to Marvel Films’ multi-movie, universe-filling franchise, and that they planned on doing so by actually making a series of villain movies—as the colorful Spider-Man rogues gallery is just about all they have the rights to. We’ve also known that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would likely be launching pad for such an endeavor, featuring as it does several members of Spidey’s Sinister Six: Electro, Rhino, Green Goblin (both Harry and Normal Osborn are in the film), as well as clips in the trailers featuring Doc Ock’s tentacles and the Vulture’s wings.
And now, in a recent interview, Sony co-chariman Amy Pascal has hinted at how The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will do it:
“At the tail end of this movie we set up some of the other characters that will probably end up being in the Sinister Six…We’re going forward on all fronts.”
Further, producer Avi Arad noted following about crafting villain-heavy tales:
“Villains can be very entertaining. It’s not like somebody’s born and they’re a villain. Something happens and it changes their lives. Some people can deal with it — they become the heroes. Some people can’t and hate the world because of what they felt was done to them — they become the villains.”
Oh and hey, random bit of fun—here’s a detailed look at Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin:
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for a May 2 release date.
